Do you ever get tired of how you need to be skinny to run well?

I dont care as much about my appearance, as I don't really have a body type that can get alien-like skinny (david mcneill at NAU), but I know that any successful season I have had has been at a weight at least 10-15lbs less than I probably should be. worrying about diet and being hungry almost all the time (when championship season rolls around) is easily the most unenjoyable part of running for me. I always gain the weight back after the season and start over, but it definitely gets old. I care too much about performance to just not care about weight.

NO I do not need to get skinny.

I am not interested in being a teen age boy who is all bones.

I am not interested in being anorexic.

I actually lift HUGE weights at the gym for me:

I am 50 years old and female and bench press 105 lbs and can do 50 mens pushups consecutively.

I also can run a marathon in 3:45 which is BQ.

I am fine.

I care about it to the extent that constantly monitoring your diet gets old very quickly.

Being skinny and emaciated is not necessary. There are plenty of non emaciated runners that are faster than you. Webb, Solinsky, Donahue, etc. Or was this just a troll thread?

You don't have to be skinny, you can run the 400 and 800 fast and be built like a linebacker. Okay, wide receiver anyhow. People see you running and they jump out of the way before you flatten them.

There is nothing like weighing 180+ and running 8 m/s. You might not run sub 17 anymore but that is a small price to pay for godhood.

if you've ever done physical exercise besides running, being mega-skinny doesn't look bad.

You do not need a bony chest and thin arms to run well. In any case, a person who works out hard is going to get slimmer anyway and his/her running well therefore improve. Where's the problem here?

You must be a scientist..... Who measures their running speed in m/s?

Don't really care. Because even with a bony, thin body, I still look better than 95% of the population and have the fitness/energy to do more than 95% of the population.

Brb while I walk up a set of stairs without breathing hard or shoveling a driveway in 10min instead of 40.

Define "run well"...I'm 5'6" 170lbs and can still run sub 5 and sub 18

I'm just glad there is a sport for us folks that are skinny and small. Do basketball players get sick of having to be tall to do well? I don't expect so.

That's why I am so opposed to "Clydesdale" divisions at races. Fu*k those guys. It's a race and you "run what you brung." If you are over 200 lbs and it slows you down, tough titty. Go play football or rugby or throw something on the field or any number of other sports that are made for you, and leave the running to those of us that have only running to excel at. End rant :-)

A bench press of 105 lbs can NEVER correctly be referred to as HUGE weights. It is far more accurately referred to as pathetic.

Between 22 and 26 I put on 20 lbs. of upper body muscle for other sports. When I got back into competitive running, my sprint times were better, mile was the same, and distances added about 10s/mile. Even running 100-120 miles/week didn't change my new physique.

Looking buff compared to my scrawny self was a plus, but just being able to perform almost any athletic or physical work task competently was the big payoff. I am overall the fittest person that I know personally (since I've never met Ashton Eaton, heh). It's like being kind of a stealth superhuman moving around in the lardass everyday world.

Yea..In recent years I think 7 white men have run under 13min in 5k..three of them are over 155lbs (solinsky, mottram, teg (alan webb could have)) - and add ben true to the list after a year or two...these guys do not look skinny at all. If you are not running close to 13:20 your diet (weight) is not the issue, it's a lack of talent or training.

Haha apparently everyone i know lifts huge weights according to your logic.

It's better than being fat, which puts me ahead of a decent percentage of people right off the bat.

All in all, being skinny doesn't bother me. Chicks dig skinny guys. Those bros who spend hours at the gym pumping up are generally only attracting trashy girls that I wouldn't be interested in anyway. Plus, I can eat whatever I want and never gain a pound because running has my metabolism cranked into the stratosphere.

@ 155 those guys are still skinny....not ethiopian skinny...but very skinny by any standard.

The biggest distance runner I can think of was Paul McMullen who actually was a linebacker in HS I do believe. ...rumor is that he broke 4:00 while at 200lbs
