NXN California teams qualification process

I understand that the process involves merging the results of the top teams from the California state meet, but how exactly does it work? Exactly how many teams are scored? Are they scored on total/average time or by points (i.e. how many points they would have scored in the combined race)? What was the power merge order for 2014?

If anyone has a link to an official qualification process for 2014, I'd love to see it.

Yeah, I saw that. I was wondering if it's always 16 teams because other people seemed to be differing on the number of schools and I couldn't find 2014 power merge results.

I believe that it's points they would have scored based on a combined race of some sort.

I agree with the guy saying to email the help email address, I'm sure they would get back to a letsrun guru.

But anyway, it seems like reading that second link somebody else had says they merge ALL teams from all divisions and score them like a regular cross meet (not sure how they do ties - maybe give the same point total for each) THEN take the top 16 from that merge to then merge those teams and score it with only those 16 teams. Top 2 go, with the next two up for wild card. Not sure if they can take a 4th and not the 3rd, but that is probably the same rules as any other regional, its just made up of the top 16 teams from the state meet all-teams-merge.

They merge all teams into one big race. Then they are supposed to take the top 20 and recalculate as if it was only those 20 in the race. The top 2 teams by points go.

I guess it is 16 teams now? Rich Gonzales pretty much makes the rules and does what he wants. Not too long ago the fastest team in CA didn't get even an at-large bid (I think it was 20 teams that year in the power merge).

I just find it odd that they wouldn't release the scores from the power merge (whether it was 16 teams, 20 or some other number) when they announce the teams that qualified -- it seems as if they have usually released the power merge results in previous years.

Can you explain what Rich Gonzales has to do with NXN...?
