Grant Fisher and Anna Rohrer were both dominant in the FLMW races today.
Fisher stayed with a leading group of 7 for the first half of the race. This group was whittled down to 3 by the 2.5 mile marker. Fisher managed to put 9 seconds between himself and the rest of the field in the final .6; his splits were 4:45, 10:44 (4:59), 15:00 (4:47 pace for the final 1.1).
Rohrer was even more impressive. She came through the mile in 5:37 with a couple of runners in tow. By 3000m, she had dropped everyone. The only girl who even tried to stay with wound up cratering and was lucky to hold on for ninth. Rohrer's splits were 5:37, 10:50 (5:13!!), 16:57 (5:34 pace for the last 1.1). The 2nd place finisher was 30 seconds back. Anna's 2nd mile was nearly as quick as the boys. Is she a lock for FL Nationals?

She might be a lock, Debalsi lost to Schwartz today. I wouldn't quite count Debalsi out because last year she got third at FL NE then got 2nd at FL; however, I don't know the times but in a photo of Schwartz's finishing it looked like she had a big lead. Rohrer took down a very deep field today, right now the only person who I think could challenge her is Debalsi on a good day or Ryen Frazier. -
Awesome comeback for Rohrer.
Dibalsi might have been running conservatively. -

I just watched Debalsi's post race interview, she said that she was more focused on qualifying than getting the win and that she didn't rest for today's meet. Hopefully she'll have a great race at nationals. -
Your splits are whack.
First he went through in 9:44 I am guessing. Second, it is 1.11 miles, so that last part was at 4:44.7 pace.
So he probably was running about 4:50 pace for the first half mile of the third mile and then, as you said, dropped the hammer for the last .61, gained 9 seconds. He prob ran that part at 4:40 pace.
Also, Rohrer SHOULD go that fast if she went out in 5:37 ... that is dawdling for girls who should be able to run 4:40 / 10:05 or close. -
here are my predictions
Frazier 17 21 (did you see she just ran 16 27???)
Rohrer 17 27
Schwartz 17 28
Debalsi 17 29
by the way, Schwartz signed with CU. Will be exciting to see her develop under Wetmore. -

Frazier also just ran a 4:44 and 10:12 #scary -

Yes, 9:44 is correct. You are also correct (albeit nitpicking) on the 1.11 miles. For what it's worth, Dyestat said that he covered the 3rd mile in 4:47, so he ran the final .11 in 29 seconds. He described the race as comfortable. I do consider him the favorite, but it will be a great race. Hopefully something like what we saw last year.
As for Rohrer, 5:13 is pretty awesome even on the heels of a 5:37. She was only 3 seconds off of her own course record and the conditions were reportedly slick and muddy. The Dyestat article said that this run was more impressive than her record run. The record was a prelude to her FL national title. That lead me to believe that those splits en route to that time are worth being excited about. -

Out of those 4 I'll say,
Rohrer
Debalsi
Schwartz
Frazier -
mmmmm - girl in LA City just won in 16:33 over 2 minutes ahead of 2nd place (2.91). Don't know what plans are for post season. Ran 1702 @ Woodward (Cal State) winning by 20 sec. Not quite as fast as some others but .... could be a factor if FL

The title is what generates clicks, duh. I'd wager that the title is what got you here. You must be jealous because my thread has been at the top of the "On the Boards" section for a full day now and it even achieved "Hot Right Now" status last night. Man, I am so awesome in so many ways. -
Glad you at least have your hat to hang on this. Seems you have nothing else going for you.

I was at the flmw race. Based on history and what I saw on Saturday Rohrer and Fisher look like the favorites to win nationals. Fisher put it down in the hills in the last 1k to run away from a very strong field. Rohrer was on another level from the rest of the girls field. They both looked incredible.

Frazier also ran 16:27 on an insanely fast course where multiple girls ran sub 17... Rohrer would have almost run sub 16 on that course given that she ran 16:57 on a difficult, muddy, and snow/ice covered course. Rohrer has it in the bag. She already knows how to win Footlocker anyways.
