Ashland looks to have fumbled hard on the end there. Went from second to fourth very quickly. Its been at least four years since Ashland has lost the 4x4 correct?

So one poster has Mach at 3:00 through 1200m and another has his 1600m sit at 4:09... Did he ease up or something? Either way, great time! I'm not so sure we can say Ashland tanked as I don't believe they ran their 'A' team.
I thought they were 18-20 seconds ahead at one point so he slowed down. Still had two races to run Sunday.
Thoughts?
So I'm not surprised GV won. Good team depth and I believe they scored at least one point in every single event. The margin of victory isn't as much as back in the day but that is a result of greater overall quality of the conference. I am surprised Ashland finished 4th. Great weekend for Mirth in the distances. Lamar Hargrove is the best sprinter in GLIAC history as I see it. GV was able to focus hitting a few national qualifying marks in the distances while still winning the meet by a comfortable margin. On to nationals!!
Lamar Hargrove's time in the 200 meters was 20.93 which was not only a GLIAC all-time record, but I hear is an all-time national record for NCAA DII. he made 21.65 and 21.72 guys look slow today!!!!! He also broke the GLIAC Conference meet record in the 60 meters in 6.70. The man is fast in case you were wondering!
I'm not entirely surprised by Ashland finishing where they did. What's happening at Ashland is something that's been on the horizon for a long time. The GLIAC is a very strong conference which is apparent when you have three teams score so high and put together outstanding performances in every event. Ashland's main problem is that their scholarship system is entirely out of whack (based on another thread noting they have 50,000 for track/xc) and not set up to get any athletes to want to be there long term with financial burden hanging over their heads. The schools that are performing well are recruiting their butts off to get with the times and Ashland has failed to land a big recruit on the distance side out of high school since Baum/Windle. When you're forced to milk and spread your guys across that many events just to get a few points it won't get you a win in the team race against a team like GV. With Baum gone and Windle, Owens, and a slew of others graduating ...who will the new guard be? They dont market themselves by competing at the big meets other schools go to. Drew Windle is their poster child and a great marketing tool and im willing to bet you that he probably wasnt on full scholarship until last year at the earliest...if at all. They haven't found anyone worth noting that can replace the load those kids carried for them. Hall and Knack are not enough to keep Ashland in the hunt and relevant on the track in a team race. Coach Logan will continue to get throwers to follow just based on tradition, but its hard to land distance kids and sprinters when you can't give them money. I can only imagine what Trent mack could do with more funding and Ill be surprised if he stays there once Windle and the current guys are gone. In this day and age kids don't care about tradition. Money talks as institutions become more expensive and it'll be interesting to see what direction Ashland goes after the old guard graduates. It's a turning point and its their decision where to put their resources
Link to the declared athletes competing at NCAA's. Anyone care to talk about it?
The only 'surprise' I noticed as far as GLIAC teams go is that GV has Odell McFarland listed on their 4x4 relay in place of Sean Wells without any alternate spot. I think the GLIAC can get 4 teams in the top 8 and think Findlay can be the highest placing team from the conference.
Gv can still put any alternate in the meet that they want. Just did this for financial reasons to get another paid player in the game.
Why does it matter who they run??
It doesn't matter who they run? Are you suggesting they could run any four people on their team and the results would be exactly the same? BTW, I didn't make any sort of value statement or criticism for it. I simply pointed out that a member of their, who has been on their 4x4 relay team the entire season, was not listed whereas someone else was. If they can still run whoever they want at the meet it doesn't matter who is listed. It certainly does matter who they run from a performance perspective.
To ride off of what the above poster was saying with Ashland's future....I find it amazing that they let Coach Horn go to tiffin. They weren't paying him very much from what I understand, but why not counter offer to keep him around?! Clearly they dropped the ball on that one as he now has the best sprints team in the country and the #1 4x4 in his first season and Ashland has their typical 7.x guy and one sub 7 sprinter. I understand from what OP said that they have issues with scholarships and things of that nature but come on....I can't see them ever producing the team that it takes to beat a strong St Augs or one of the big sprint schools at the national meet with 4-5 kids. I'm calling it now, Trent Mack will get an offer from a big school and they won't even touch it and he'll go.
Think about taking out more credit cards to pay the interest off credit card debt you already have. Thats why. They are broke.

Most of the private schools in the gliac are borderline bankrupt minus hills dale. Ashland is no different than Lake Erie, tiffen, or Malone.
Can the GLIAC men put 4 teams in the top 5? Has this ever even been heard of before to be possible? Scoring out the meet right now has Findlay taking the ship. Will they pull that off?

4/5: Yes
Findlay taking the ship: No
Findlay has a lot of room for improvement in 800 and lj/tj. Their throws pts are steady and there wont be much movement either way. They are the only team that can score 55. They are the favorite. The computer formula has it right. Ashland could get 2nd-5th. Same with gv.
Nick Hall jogs a 4:28 for next to last in the mile prelim.
I guess he'll be fresh for the DMR but why even bother entering the mile if you are in that frame of mind?
Mach not a whole lot better at 4:20.
