^ Agree. I think it's really hard to compare results from meets other than conference and regionals, there's not really much point in doing so

You are a fool if you think enrollment has very much to do with WIAC success. It is more the fact that after UW (which is a very hard to team to make), the wiac is really the next best option for competitive running in the state. Plus the state schools offer a pretty good education for the cost. Being d1, d2 or d3 has absolutely nothing to do with enrollment. It's about if you want to pay athletes. The WIAC schools do not offer athletic scholarships therefore they are in fact in the appropriate division.

That said mideast champion then crushed NYU one week later at UAA's, who finished right behind Oneonta at regionals... so maybe they just peaked at the right time (aka conference and regionals)...
Also at UAAs, Carnegie lost to a Padgett-less WashU 37-60 and only beat U of C (9th in the Midwest) 60-78.
Without Padgett, WashU finishes 8th in the Midwest with 184.
Carnegie is about as good as Stevens Point, and the other Mideast qualifiers would be around U of C and Augie.

Augie got beat by Wartburg who isn't even ranked and got 7th in the central region. Augie is definitely a legit top 20 team. Put the crack pipe down dude
Augie lost to Wartburg at Wartburg's smaller invite earlier in the year in a very close race. However, Augie also handily beat Wartburg at Oshkosh without their second man. Maybe Augie wouldn't be a top 20 team, maybe they would, maybe the crack is getting to your head.
There are 5 legit teams in the Mideast, most years that means only 4 make it out. H and D tend to cruise Mideast (which helped get them to Nats this year as 4 and 5) Like most years, CMU went into Mideast thinking if they didn't give it everything, they would be sitting at home. They listen to or write threads like this too much. You can't compare their Mideast race to any of their other races. It would be great if they can do it again at Nats for DDs last race.
Mideast was surprisingly weak. The highest 5th man was 27th?!
They will be lucky to have 1 team in the top 10.
You don't think they gave everything they got for their best chance at a conference title in half a decade?
I assume their effort levels were similar in both races, and I don't think Haverford or Dickinson are good enough this year to 'cruise' through regionals. If that really was the plan, they certainly cut it closer than intended.
Simply put, Oshkosh got screwed because Platteville ran like garbage all season until WIACs and Regionals. If UWP had beaten Stout at Regionals, the Midwest would have 7 teams going and Tufts and St. Thomas would not be in Mason this weekend

That could also mean the exact opposite. If the whole region is strong then the highest 5th man would be lower as well. All that having a poorly-placing highest 5th man means that there was no team that ran away with the title and the top teams were all reasonably well matched.
I think Mideast will surprise people-- several guys ran faster than Bobby Over's course record (he finished 2nd at nationals that year). And I think the top 8 all ran faster than Chris Stadler's PR on that course. That's no joke.
CMU's #3 at regionals was their #6 at their conference meet, so realistically they are pretty even with a Padgett-less WashU squad. However, Padgett looks like the man to beat at nationals, but CMU definitely isn't a fluke.
Josh Moen and Missy Buttry of Wartburg.

Mideast didn't deserve 5 teams, not with those point totals and 5th runners finishing 60+ at a regional meet.
Has a school ever had both male and female champions the same year? Padgett and Cheadle from WashU should be up there.

The Wisconsin state schools being d3 is bull anyways. They have three times the undergrad enrollment that most other d3 schools have.
Right, like the "scholarships" the expensive private schools hand out to their athletes is legit. How many "leadership" scholarships do schools like St. Thomas or Dickensnon hand out to their student athletes over non-student athletes?
*Dickinson
Baby Nats!!
No one knows it yet, but one John Guzan of Occidental College is going to be right up there challenging for the individual title.
Has anyone been updated on Jib from UWlax? Their national title hopes might be out the window if he's hurt.
Dickinson sucks.

Can anyone explain why the Great Lakes got 4 teams? That is the really big surprise to me. The region only had 2 nationally ranked teams going in to the regional weekend, and only one of them was top 20. Calvin was supposed to be the second best team, then finished 4th and still got a spot. This doesn't make sense to me, especially over Platteville. I think a more understandable case can be made for the rest of the at large selections.
^ I don't really know why either. Wabash spanked all 3 of the other teams pretty handedly
