alan culpepper... smoooth. for an average joe type.
i guess for the very gifted i'd say gebrselassie.
Although nowhere in the Kipketer, Geb, Seb, King Carl, Neiamiah catagory, an excellent American is Mark Croghan. I judge pretty by needing a watch to see how fast the runner is traveling. Those listed seem like they are jogging until a watch is used, then you realize. Everyone has their opinion, but I feel Shorter slapped his feet and Virgin ran very pigeon toed. To veer off a little, I always thought Joan Benoit (duck-footed) looked like a housewife-jogger rather than the tough world beater that she was.

Did he make that up like his times?

the best I ever saw was the late Abebe Bikila. His run in Tokyo was a perfect picture of focus and grace. Just look at Bud Greenspan's video on the Tokyo Olympics and you will see just what I mean.
Bikila was smooth -
but Greenspan's video made him look like a ping pong ball.
George W Bush has an incredible form!

IMO, Amber Trotter always looks in pain.

Smoother than a baby's backside. Once I even thought he was gonna give me a dollar, but he jus' spit in my direction.
Without a doubt, Masako Chiba. Saw her do some road intervals 2 weeks ago in Japan and I was amazed.

Marty Liquori said that the Scandinavians were so smooth that he thought the first one he raced was a Homo. He said this in his book "On the Run". Must be from running in snow that gives the action of the fairy. Gunder Hagg and Viljo Heino were reknowned for their "Tinkerbell" action.

There is absolutely no question who is the prettiest runner to watch.
Wilson Kipketer - and if you ask the top athletes on the circuit they will say that too.
You just cannot appreciate on telly how smooth he is. I have watched Kipketer and El G running at Zurich from trackside - and its not close.
My friend was at the same training camp as him in Poland, and told me he was running 200's or something in 26 - and Kipketer was running 300's in an outer lane, and blew by him looking like he was jogging.
There are so many nice movers out there - hell, I cant see anyhting wrong with Gebrasallasie etc, so I think it has to come down to speed, and Kipketers form at incredible speed (dont forget how fast he runs - his WR is averaging 25.3 200's) is second to none.
so Kipketer and fuggetabootit.

Yep. That indoor 800m WR in Paris was beauty itself.
Molly Huddle, anyone disagree, I've seen her run in person many times, she has perfect form.
Rice University's Aimee Teteris--perfection over 800m
