"I really gain the greatest confidence from putting together weeks upon weeks of solid training. It’s not really a matter of walking away from a session of mile repeats and saying, “Wow, I’m ready.” It’s running a session of mile repeats two days after a 24-mile long run and following that up with a tempo run just under race pace—it’s putting in the work week in and week out that’s really what I thrive on.

My favorite workout to do is four times two miles at 9,000 feet. It’s an elevation that taxes me, whereas when I do intervals and other sessions at 7,000 feet I’m usually able to do them quite easily. But when I go up to 9,000 feet and do these two-mile repeats it really taxes me and it feels really good afterwards. Trying to hit five-minute-mile pace at that elevation is a really daunting task, but it’s a workout I really thrive on and love doing."

Such a great performance... Having gotten to run with Deena quite a bit over the summer in Mammoth Lakes and having seen her training I can say I'm not entirely surprised by her race. Deena is a fantastic runner and is an amazingly friendly, sincere, and genuinely happy-go-lucky person who you just can't help but root for. Go Deena!

But if you say she beat a likely cheating Russian's record, wtf should we think about the person who beat the "likely cheating Russian's" time?

not really. there are fifty or more russians currently suspended and a lot of them appear in masters all time rankings. New York's a tough place to run 2:24. She's certainly in shape to run 2:24, but that would happen much easier in Berlin or Chicago, if the weather was right. She hasn't been this healthy and in shape for a long time, which is why she's gone under the radar.

Kara's doing well enough. She's had so many injury problems in recent years that a 1:11 close to her goal race is very good, and remember that she often runs these closer to MP. Sub 2:30 would honestly be quite nice for her in November.

Shalane's looking to be in fantastic shape. She's been running 5xmile repeats at 4:50 with the last close to 4:40.

Kastor's 69:39 Half pegs out to a 2:26:29 Full according to McMillain, on equivalent course/conditions, if the endurance training has extended one out to the Full. Judging NYCM to be 2-3 minutes more difficult (over the Full) than a flat Philly course, we peg Kastor at 2:29-2:30 for NYCM. Alhough Philly was likely warmer and more humid than expected at NYCM, any benefit there is negated by Kastor's likely optimizing her current condition for the Half distance (in order to break the WR). This might (significantly) factor into Kastor going 2:30+.

A similar exercise pegs Goucher at ~2:33 for NYCM.

What is the NYCM female 40-45 course record?

IMO 2:31;38 or better would be a fine result.
