Kiprop was in last until about 450 to go when he made a power move to the front where he hit the bell in second on the outside ofSouleiman.

The flew the final lap. 50.09 the final lap and 36.8 the last 300. They were side by side down the stretch but Souleiman was too good.

Kiprop's best chance as not to waste all the energy from 450 to 400 to get the lead. Plus he had to run wide on the turns.

I think Kiprop has been burned out from trying to get into world record shape earlier this season...

I think some guy from Spain ran sub 50 to beat Steve Cram in 1987.

Can we just admit the men's 1500 is the best event in track?

Think about how good Kiprop has been historically. Then you've got two guys in Souleiman and Kiplagat who seem to have been better this year.

That's basically Federer - Nadal and Djokovic.

Then you've got the American based guys - Centro, Willis, Manzano - who can pick up a medal if the big guys get hurt, totally screw it up or blow up after going for gold.

And oh yeah, Makhloufi. I forgot about him. It's like tennis with the Big 4 but to compare Makhloufi to Murray is an embarassment.

I guess the men's 800 is pretty damn good as well but what else compares? Nothing is close. In the 5k, guys aren't consistent. The only one consistent is Farah.

Women's running? No depth.

ridiculous questions - plenty of threads on here have taught me that milers & other distance runners have no speed and can't run sub-50 400s. so no way they could do it in the context of an actual 1500 race.

wejo was asking for 1500s that were closed in sub 50. Simple question: was Jim Ryun's race in Dusseldorf closed in sub 50? No. I don't care how you convert it. It was not run in sub 50. Therefore it isn't an answer to his question

I can't believe people are impressed by a 3:48 1500m. This means nothing as the snails pace technically gave everybody a shot at winning. Only a faster pace can separate the really good runners and, Monaco was it for me. Kiplagat beat Kiprop and even ran a faster PR. Soulemeiman tried to shadow Kiprop but couldn't keep up and got singed in the last lap.

How is this supposed to be impressive? Over 50% of the race was ran at basically a jog (~70s lap from 400-800m!? Did somebody forget to tell these guys it's a 1500m and not a marathon?) and then the winner manages a final lap that is probably 2-3 seconds slower than his flat out capability, which I'm guessing is around 47-48 seconds.

This was a pretty easy race to figure out that it was going to be a kickers race.

Zero time bonus with exception of a world record which would have gotten you $50k. 1st place $30K , 2nd $15k , 3rd10k , this is good money for any track race in Europe , a good kicker has nothing to loose , even Leo in 7th picked up $2k !

Money race championships like this are always tactical and slow. Our Kenyan friends knew this would be a slow pace kick hard finish , knowing even 3rd got you $10K.
