If I haven't been nominated for the Ice Bucket Challenge yet, is it a safe assumption that I have no friends?

I had some tell me in a text they were going to nominate me. I told her I wouldn't do it because it is dumb. Other than her, no one for me either. I have a close friend that has lots of friends too, facebook and otherwise, that hasn't been nominated either.

I think certain people know that certain people might not be into it and don't bother.

The whole phenomenon has raised $41 million for ALS Association in the past 4 weeks. In contrast, they raised $19 million in all of 2013. While we all love to be cynical about everything enjoyed by other people, it would seem that this is actually working pretty well.

I was nominated, didn't do it, don't have money to donate. Big woop. Doesn't matter. If you have financial means to donate, do it. If you don't, carry on.

As a whole, its good cuz people hear the term "ALS" which causes some of them to look it up and learn about it, while the fiscally responsible are like "I'm gonna donate to that."

I have two observations: first, I am utterly amazed how this stuff takes off in this day and age. I don't think I heard about this until about five days ago, and I've heard about it many times since then. Second, I am amazed by how funds are raised by charities in this country.I have a list of charities I send a check to annually because I believe in their mission. And yet, what seems to get most people to make donations is dumping water on heads, pledging per mile run, etc. You can't argue with the results: I've heard that ALS contributions are up something like 400% since the ice bucket craze. RIP my old friend Joe Schwartz, a fine athlete and a better friend, who died of this horrible disease in 2008.

I've seen several people make this argument, and it makes absolutely no sense to me. Anytime somebody donates to ANY charity, it means other charities won't get that money. DUH.

This just seems like a contrived way to be cynical about something that there is no reason to be cynical about. Save it.

I'm glad they raised a lot of money. What I find troubling is that the people getting all of the exposure (the douches dumping water on themselves) aren't the ones donating. The people giving money, presumably, are the ones NOT making these dumb videos.

FTS, If anybody pours ice water on me I'll kill em.
