Are you kidding me? Mo Farah ducks competition again - won't run DL final

To be honest, I get why he does it. His marathon debut in London was crazy. Compare that to say Bekele winning over himself in Paris. Yes, he didn't go with the leaders and him having his own rabbit was less than totally manly but all told it was certainly not a case of him being afraid to lose.

For debuting in London, he deserved props but instead he got crucified for losing and now he's being smarter about his races.

Yes, he should be race himself into the ground like Webb and Solinsky both regret doing. That's what champions do.

I get what you are saying but the props he'd deserve for debuting in London were lost when you remember he had his own set of rabbits and he made a ton of money.

Where else would he have debuted?

He doesn't deserve props for doing London. He signed a contract a year earlier to do London for a very large amount of money. It had nothing to do with competing. It was about the money.

Every top marathoner signs a contract for a very large amount of money. The point is Mo chose to get his large payment in London which almost always has the most competitive fields. He chose to make money by competing against the best. (Admittedly London was probably willing to pay the most, but I am certain there were other opportunities to make almost as much with less competitive fields.)

Yeah, this is a strange year for Mo.

But I crack up at people who think he's some sort of wimp. At 31, let him manage his own life. As for being unable to win against an "honest" pace, we do have to go back 3 years, but he ran 12:53 and 26:46. And he won against the best guys then, Lagat, Merga, etc.

And, the guys he beat in the Olympics and Worlds, are they dishonest competitors?

The real test is worlds next year. Look out for various Kenyans, Jelian and Rupp over 10K. Mo will have his hands full.

All that being said, yeah I wish Mo would go out and race over 5K this year against the studs. But he ain't gonna do it.

Whether he's being a chicken sh!t or a smart & savvy athlete, both possibilities stem from the same cause: When you're a winner and you have a big sponsor, you get to race whenever you want.

So here's an interesting question: Should sponsors and athletics federations insist on a minimum number of competitions per year from their athletes?
