after the first couple they begin to lose their significance, then they go to a box to be donated, except for the few that have personal meaning.
I thought of this, but what happens to donated race medals? What possible use could anyone have for old finisher medals? They don't provide shelter and they have no resale value (with the except of Boston marathon ones).
I've got a bunch of finisher medals from 5ks. Yes, 5ks. They have no meaning. One from a 5k that used to cost $10.00, but they raised the price to $20.00, and gave out these stupid medals. The ironic part is the finisher medal is nicer than the earned finishing place award! That seems to be the trend. Blingy medal for finishing, and a lousy ribbon for winning.
Maybe I'll keep the medals as a reminder of the money I wasted on entry fees to these events... Give me a low-profile 5k any day of the week. Problem is they are disappearing fast.
