Every single tattoo is meant to heighten one's sexual attraction by appearing edgey, badboy, stylish, etc. For years I thought they were pretty cool. Slowly as I've made more and more friends and acquaitances it's dawned on me that deep down EVERY tattoo that people have is vanity, pure and simple. Ever notice how people with tattoos change their wardrobe so that most of their clothing exposes their tattoos? It's crazy.
Everyone I know who has a tattoo is an insecure douchebag. If you think that it's sexually attractive then you are targeting the wrong market, son.

I would never date a man with even a small tattoo. Men who draw pretty pictures on themselves are a bit odd. Those ones who have garter straps round their legs - odder still. What is with that type of tattoo? Presumably its meant to look like something else but I just see a garter strap rather than, say, barb wire.

I agree that tattoos are incredibly lame and would never get one. However, I know plenty of non-insecure, non-douchebags that do have them. Tons of people have tattoos (unfortunately). I think that is the point that Lantern was making.

I respectfully disagree. You're casting quite a large net with your statement.
My grandfather, a Marine in WWII, had his social security number tattooed on this arm as an alternative means of identifying his body. I've also read that this was common practice in the 30's when the government stressed the extreme importance of one's SS number.
Also, my buddy recently got a tattoo on his finger in lieu of a wedding ring (works with his hands, doesn't like jewelry). While you might make the perverted argument that this serves to KEEP his mate, I think it's more for utility purposes.
The wolf tattoos on ones knee caps looks stupid and will look even more dumb when they get old and saggy.

It seems like nearly everyone has one. Even people you don't think would have one...has one. I don't get it. I think the art of tattoo is pretty cool but, I really don't get the allure of putting ink all over your skin.
Tattoos are a mark of the working class. You'll never see a rich person from a rich, frictionless upbringing with a full sleeve. Even if a rich person does have a visible tattoo, it's a way of saying "started from the bottom now I'm here."
White collar people get tattoos too, but they're usually small, something random (like a Japanese symbol), and never visible with normal shirt/pants on. These serve as a talking point at a party, nothing more.
They look hideous and signal a total absence of good taste and judgment.
Just another example of intolerance of others. I have no tattoos and never will get one, but I don't care who does. So just shut up and go find something else to judge!

I have one tattoo, got it after my life had hit an all time low (about 20 years ago), and finaly found the power and will to get my act together and stop the downward spiral.
My tattoo is rather small, on my right shoulder, and simply serves as a reminder to never let things get that far ever again.
I wear normall clothes (so my tattoo is not visible most of the times), and most people don't know I even have it (exept for those close to me and those who have seen me in swimming trousers tec.). It's not some wannebe bas ass sign of text, just something that I know the meaning of.
Your statement is just simply false in my case, and I am sure in many other cases.
My brother and his wife have matching tattoos of the footprint if their infant son who passed away. It is the daily reminder of his short, but beautiful life.

Tattoo's are for scumbags who lack personality. To make up for it they get something stupid drawn on them to have something to talk about to other lowlifes. Go to your nearest electro show or college and you'll see shallow scumbags talking to each other about the "Deeper Meaning" behind their tattoos.

when you go on vacation/beach you see a lot of really bad tattoos on people. Also, the crappy world of crossfit is filled with them
Of course it's possible to generalize with comments about those that get tattoos, like anything. For some though it is a sign of someone that is comfortable making impulsive decisions that they will have to live with the rest of their lives. If nothing else, it can be a small read into their personality.

Or comfortable enough in themselves to know with confidence that they will still want what they want now in the 20, 30, 40 years. Out of all of the people I know with tattoos (at least 20), only one is unhappy with hers, and only because of the location.
