I don't understand this. I am a former D1 runner in the early 00s, and I remember college recruiting being somewhat restricted. How are guys who are 15 and 16 already "committing" to schools in football?
Were the rules slackened?

A verbal commitment means nothing really. Nothing is signed and in 2 years the University could say they are not interested or the kid could change his mind. (As a Dawg I hope the kid is as good as everyone thinks he is going to be. Having a dad who played big time football including a stint in the NFL bodes well.)
I hear you. I went to an ACC school, but I lived in Athens for a while and have family there. I root for the dawgs during football (along with my team).
I just feel like there is a lot of access with these kids. 15/16 and going on visits? Working with the team?
I swear I remember having seniors visit our school and they couldn't participate in practices, etc.
I don't know, it just seems like a really slippery slope.
Nothing against the kid at all. He seems like a smart kid who is making a good decision, especially with the Academic side of things.
This is pathetic. pro sports where business men sit around and pick teams of teenagers off of whom they'll male millions.
Stupid.
American men regularly now run sub 13 5k and sun 27 10k but marathons stuck at 2:07. What gives?
