No 17-18yo goes backwards in the next 3 years. They are still developing and haven't peaked physically.

Maybe winning an Olympic medal has a high schooler makes some rest on their laurels a bit? Lack of motivation from having it come so easy? I know Nijel Amos took to partying and delaying. But your point is moot as Kitum just opened his season with a 1:43 in Belgium anyway.
