For those interested in Alan Webb's progress, it has been significant. Webb anchored Team USA to a sixth place finish at the Triathlon Relay World Championships in a race with all the major triathlon contenders. Big improvement with respect to the Sarasota relay earlier this year. Results are available at this site:

That was a close finish and I think the USA ended up in 5th place. Webb had to close a little gap after the bike in the final one mile run, but almost ran out of gas in the sprint against the German.
I have no idea how this performance relates to his prior performances in the triathlon. He had the 6th best run split today, but many other guys already competed in the WC series yesterday.
The German guy (Buchholz), which he basically tied with, is ranked 15th in the world. We will see this weekend how Webb does against Kile Jones, who is currently ranked 41st in the world. The race will be a semi Olympic distance.
That was a really cool event. Glad to see Webb "getting it" in the tris. Hope he can make the Rio team.

It's a relay event.
4 members to a team
2 women and 2 men
They each do a full triathlon.
It was an ultra sprint event (approx 20 minutes each leg)
This was an ITU event. The top guys were all there.
However, it was run the day after the individual event.
Webb was right in the middle of the mix.
He actually had the fastest T1 transition(?). That's the time between the swim and the bike. Faster than the world champion... That's pretty impressive.
It made him look like he is top 10 in the US already.
I hope that he can participate in a top Olympic distance event before year end.
From his Twitter, it seems like he only found out last night that he would be participating. He was training in Spain (training camp) and had planned to simply go see the race in Germany (be an alternate?).
Interestingly, Webb only lost 8 seconds to Aliston Brownlee on the swim leg (3:56 to 4:04), but he lost 14 seconds to Brownlee on the run leg (4:25 to 4:39).
I always though of Webb as more of a runner than a swimmer :)
He is doing very well on the swim... Better than LV, I am sure.
Obviously, he has to learn how to run after the bike.
This race was great to see Alan bringing his skills on the bike/swim as he is just getting back into running (note 14 secs behind Brownlee's finish) - after a needed break from running (post- Milrose). He has done minimal for speed work and just putting a heavy emphasis on the swim/bike which is great to think of his future potential. Congrats Alan!!
Wasn't he slatted to do Toronto? Last second switch? Is he doing Magog and then Kelowna in August?

Great. I was able to follow the meet when I noticed Julia's tweet this morning. From looking at several sites, it appeared he held his own in the run/swim and picked up several places in the run. Exciting. Good timing as I had just watched the Flotrack series a few days ago.
Looked like he was trying to "win the pack" he was in, so he sat and kicked, rather than chase the podium, that was essentially out of reach. Promising start on this stage.
Yes, the way I read it, he would have had to run 15-16 seconds faster to get fourth place rather than fifth. Had he done this it would have been the fastest time of the day in the run. He won the 5-8 pack he started in. I think it's a great result and I'm excited about continuing to watch his progress.

Haha, for sure! Webb and Ritz were my idols growing up running, especially as I grew up in the same ballpark area as Webb ran in HS a few years later.
I'm sure if he posted we'd all eventually get used to it, though.
