I hope Chris can come back and perform well at the marathon (sub-2:10). He was one of my favorite HS runners, and could've given someone like Ryan Hall a run for his money had he been one year older.

Hall was 3rd at Footlocker as a senior and ran a 3:42.70 1500 and 8:58.70 two mile. Solinsky was 3rd at Footlocker as a junior, first as a senior. Mile/3200 was 4:05.30/8:43.04.

Solinsky more than gave Ryan Hall a run for his money in HS running. In college, I remember a certain sophomore taking down the entire 3000 field indoors which included Ryan Hall -

Chris Solinsky will return to track shape by 2016. His marathon training will give him his base back. All he needs to figure out is how to race again. He has lost all his speed. Remember when he took down Galen Rupp at UW indoor mile in 2010? He needs to figure out how to get back into 3:55 shape.

Let me get this straight. Rupp can go run a record time for 2 miles, then run 3 x 1 mile with 3 min jog AND THEN race Solinsky for 1500m and beat him straight up? Yep, Chris needs to keep living in the past 'cause the present ain't too kind!

He is absolutely done. 3:51 (4:09 mile?) should be achievable in PRACTICE. There are HSers who could beat this guy. That's just embarrassing. Marathon training is no excuse for that...

Give the guy a break. It takes time. Even if he is done, and there's no way for any of us to know that, why rag on a guy so much? He's a likeable person and a thrilling runner to watch. Give him a few months and especially a year and he will almost certainly be back into solid form.

All of you people saying "oh give him time" are ridiculous. It shouldn't take any significant amount of time for a guy who was once at his old level to return to sub 3:50 shape. That's a joke, stop kidding yourself. It's over. 3:51 is an absolute absolute absolute joke. My god. Now amount of time makes up for such appalling performances.

Grant Fisher should challenge him to a race. Doesn't seem to take that kid more than a couple of months to be in 3:50 shape.

Good thread. If sprintgeezer were here, he would agree wholeheartedly with the OP. It was a good ride while it lasted, but it's over. Maybe Rupp's ploys have had their intended effect.

Think about it, the guy was a 5K guy only training for the 5K and beats a 10K guy training for the 10K to become the first white guy under 27 mins out of no where. Taking some drugs are known to cause excessive injuries. Now he is trying to do it clean and clearly he just sucks.

I don't see why one Nike group that trains at Nike gets all the hype for drugs when the group he is with also trains at Nike and doesn't get the same hype..why wouldn't they have the same resources as the other group (drugs included).

He's stayin in Belgium for quite some time now. Has already confirmed 3000m this Saturday (Oordegem) and 1500m next Saturday (Kortrijk).

Here's what I don't get about Solinsky. Sure, it takes time to come back from a severe injury -- but he came back to 13:30 level last year. Not his old self, not even close, but still within spitting distance of being nationally elite. WAY better than anything he's run recently. Why is he so much worse this year, the second of his comeback, than last?
