Never doubt the Leo the Lion.
He is always in the hunt at USAs.
Centro didn't show up because he knows Leo would take him in a race like this.

I'm pissed Centrowitz wasn't in the race. I dunno of he was "ducking" or not, but who doesn't want to be a US champion?
Manzano always shows up big at USATF's. Good to see him running well with a new contract. He had a very fine close as always in his good races.
Nike is stupid. They've lost their touch with athletes.
Huddle wins the 5000m.
Manzano wins the 1500m.
Who's next?
I posted this in the live discussion thread:

Casey has really emerged this year.
Leo is a beast.
Will Leer ran a poor tactical race. 52.64 for Manzano the last lap, Leer ran 52.71.
Does Leer really think he's going to pass half the field in a 3:38 race on the final lap?
In case you missed it, Casey led onto the finishing straight but Manzano was perfectly poised as he usually is when he is on. He kicked by for the win, Casey 2nd, Lomong 3rd, Leer 4th.
Results
Place Athlete Time
1 Leo Manzano Hoka One One 3:38.63

4 Will Leer Nike 3:39.11
5 Ford Palmer NJNY TC 3:39.78
6 AJ Acosta Unattached 3:39.97
7 Riley Masters Brooks 3:40.05
8 Dorian Ulrey Nike 3:40.15
9 Garrett Heath Brooks 3:40.28
10 Eric Avila Southern Oregon Univ 3:41.29
11 Liam Boylan-Pett NJNY TC 3:45.58
12 Matt Hillenbrand Kentucky 3:50.31
Would it have been appropriate for Manzano to carry a Mexican flag after his USA championship victory?
Tu callate!
A great win for a great guy. And he wasn't shy about mentioning the sponsorship fiasco in his interview.
As for Centro, he does just fine in races like this and has beaten Leo at his own game at times.
I think the reason Centro, Wheating and JMac all passed has something to do with Nike deciding it didn't want to contribute more than necessary to the success of a meet held in Sacramento.

Piss off DaveW, that flag thing was a nice tribute. He's sacrificing a lot running-wise to compete for the USA because he would have an easy route to the Olympics if he ran for Mexico.

Wheating and JMac would have been stomped anyways.
This is just a build up to 2016 Olympics. It was no fluke how Leo finished. Saw the exact same finish at the end of a tough workout a couple weeks ago. The question is if he can finish the same off a faster pace in 2016.
Yes, I'm sure he would have made more money if he ran for Mexico? I'm so glad we have runners who take USA dollars but represent other countries with flags and disrespect the country that gave them the opportunity.

I'm so glad we have xenophobes like you who think immigrants shouldn't respect their own family and their own heritage. I said piss off.

What do you mean when you say that he takes USA dollars? Are you under the impression that runners' salaries are paid by the government? Or do you just literally mean that his sponsorship earnings and prize money are paid in U.S. currency?
DaveW is a disgruntled Nike employee/loyal. All his posts make this obvious.

If Leo hates the US so much, why does he routinely wear his USA singlet when doing solo workouts or just watching local track meets in Austin? You need to get off your couch and get down to Austin to watch some real training and hard core workouts in some very difficult climate conditions. Leo's hard work is paying off. This is just the start. Just watch and stop the bashing on the forum.
You can respect your family culture from another country at your next family reunion, but not while you are representing the USA. If you represent the USA at a national or international championship, you should no longer be able to compete under the USA flag if you pull out another countries flag for a victory lap.
Jordan was injured. A guy like that would jump at the chance to win a national championship. Update on him here:

Wheating won Portland and talked about breaking the American record and being "back" but he is still a ways from that and he likely knows that. See:
http://www.letsrun.com/news/2014/06/king-mo-farah-returns-track-scorching-fast/
Wheating closed in 57.95 in Portland in a 3:38 race. Manzano closed in 52 here today.
Centro must have no incentives in his contract to run here.
USATF needs to start putting more financial muscle behing USAs to get athletes to run. If may not matter for a guy like Centro, but if you are healthy and don't run then USATF should not pay for you to go to a meet like Oxy, they shouldn't pay for your insurance, etc. Those things should come tied with running the national championhships.

Good luck getting anyone else to care about this xenophobic rule you just made up.
Most of us, on the other hand, are comfortable with people of multiple heritages. I don't believe being American means you must hate Mexico or be offended by their flag. Apparently you think differently.
Great kick by Manzano... I thought Pat Casey had it this time, great tactics for him too. Will Leer should really try being closer to the front; seems like he always comes on like a train to get 3rd or 4th.
