Running shirtless

I'm 30. Got a little self-conscious about it in my later 20s. Last year I ran with a shirt on all summer, and started to this summer. Then one day I ran shirtless and it was just so wonderful feeling that I couldn't go back, plus I didn't get the stink eye from anyone or anything.

80? If it's over 60, my shirt is off.

This has changed - chest hair is now embarassing for some reason. men actually shave their chests (I'm serious).

you'll see bald chested men running without shirts where I live but rarely anyone with chest hair.

I go shirtless when it's over about 65. I also shave my chest.

Very few people in my area run shirtless. When I was in high school, a few guys on the team would, and on my college team I can only remember one guy doing it. And I live in TX where it is hot as balls. Not sure if it has anything to do with TX being an uber conservative state. Or the fact that TX is one of the most obese states in the nation.

As to the nature of the state and subsequent culture...I am in relatively conservative city, but the previous one was liberal.

I got a little runners belly but I'll go shirtless if I'm wearing knee length shorts in a not too crowded area and its over 65.

The only time I'll do shirtless and short-shorts is finishing up intervals on the track.

What the hell is a "runners belly"?

Shirtless running is offensive to anyone with an ounce of common taste and decency. The less skin and hair visible, the better.

You're in denial. Once you hit your 30s, your man boobs start to develop. And they will grow for the rest of your life. At first, you won't think there's much there, but others will not be able to help but notice your obvious jiggling and bouncing.

American culture is overly modest which is why no one wears speedos and there are hardly any topless beaches etc. America was controlled by the religous nutjobs and that culture has stayed.

People actually run with shirts on?

Because I'm trying to avoid round two with skin cancer.

In hs and college none of us wore shorts past 70 degrees. But I went to hs in a suburb and to college in a small town. Running in a major city without a shirt is less socially accepted, as I've discovered. I live in NYC now and I get a bunch of weird looks when I run through the streets without a shirt on, especially in less affluent neighborhoods. Took a bit of getting used to but don't notice it anymore. It's probably also an age thing--passerbys give you fewer degrees of freedom as you get older.

Started running in the 1970s. If it was hot there wasn't a shirt to be seen on my HS XC team. Same in college in the 80s. Something weird happened in the 1990s. Guys got self conscious about running shirtless. I still do it, but I can only think of 1 other guy in my running club who does.

And to the guy who thinks you naturally get man boobs once you're 30 - don't project your problems on the rest of us. If you have man boobs it's because you're fat.

If you ever find yourself saying, "i want to do A but people will look at me funny." Just f-ing do A and own it.

I always take my shirt off if its over 60 degrees. I usually end up getting compliments from female friends when they see me, so obviously I'm going to keep doing it.
