How many states have actually had sub 4's run in them?

What states have there not been sub 4:00 miles run in? Indoor/outdoor, any level...not "converted" for altitude, just raw times.

Just curious cause didn't Dunbar just do the first one in Alaska (or was that the first by someone from Alaska?). Clarification on what states are left to have a sub 4:00 done within their boundaries. Specifically the southern states (maybe there's already a thread on it?)

For sure I know (except the ones with "?s"):

Arizona

Arkansas

California

Colorado(?)

Florida

Illinois

Indiana

Iowa

Kansas

Michigan

Minnesota(?)

New York

Ohio

Oklahoma

Oregon

Texas

Virginia

Washington

That's less than 20 so there's got to be more than that...

Rojo and Wejo, feel free to chime in since you have been in the game for longer than most of us and probably know of a couple states no one else would know for sure. Thanks guys.

Vermont and New Hampshire probably belong...Maine I think had Erik Nedeau or someone else dip under 4:00 during their old Distance Festival or some such.

Rojo and Wejo can barely find Florida on a map so I wouldn't go treating them as sources of wisdom in this quest of yours.

Missouri (3:54 I believe is the fastest).

Wisconsin (I remember Teg running the 1st I think).

Pretty sure that's the list for sub4's from people who were from that state, not that the times were actually ran within the state. Otherwise the Iowa times would be way lower cause the 80s guys killed some Drake relays there. Sick thread though

Check Wisconsin off - Tegenkamp and Solinsky ran first sub four minute miles there in 2006.

There are probably others, but Tony Waldrop and Reggie McAfee both broke 4 at the Big Four Meet in Raleigh in 1973. McAfee was the first African American to break four.

On second thought, don't add AK. Dunbar ran 3:59 last summer, but that was in Portland. So if the question is "in state" then nope it hasn't happened yet.

I don't know if Colorado had an official sub 4 mile, but Manzano ran a 3:41.8 1500 there at Big 12 a while back that would convert to sub 4.

No sub 4 on the track in Colorado.

Several in downhill road races...

4:03.99 by Rory Fraser in 2013.

3:41.80 in the 1500 by Manzano in 2008 at Big 12 champs. Stephen Pifer was 3:43.65 in the same race.

PS, the Hoka meet didn't add Massachusetts to the list, there have been millions of indoor sub-4s run in Boston

Rhode Island has. There was a meet set up a few summers ago to put them on the list.
