Well, just finished racing in a local 5k today. Last month was high 19s and this race I am now an 18:40s guy. Nice. Well, in the past month I have been running more but still including cycling (mainly a morning run of 6-10 miles and a 2-3hr afternoon ride). I used to be strictly a big-time cyclist, but would run a few miles every now and then during the week.
I put in 8 miles this morning with warm up, race, and cool down. Should I just start doubling with run-run for now and out in order to prepare for cross country? yeah it will be my first year of cross for the high school.
I feel like the cycling DID benefit me though and afraid that if I stop I will lose my big aerobic base that I have built up with cycling roughly 15 hours a week. Because you can't put in those kind of rides (4+ hour long rides) or time with running, at least for me for now with running
Would appreciate hearing some opinions and advice. I want to be running anything in the 17s this fall. I can start putting in 6-10 miles in the morning with 2-4 miles easy in the afternoon starting today since school ended for us yesterday
