If you have ever raced at altitude and that course you'd know. Some days you have some you don't. And if you go too fast on the first mile or two the rest of the way is a struggle.

Actually two Eritreans, two Ethiopians, a Mexican, an Ecuadoran, a fellow American - and only one Kenyan.

Some days you have it and some days you don't on that course? Are you kidding? I am a absolute total nobody in running and have run 31:18 on that course. I was not training hard at the time - just decided to do it.

For athletes that are or WERE solid runners those times are horrible.

That's actually a pretty encouraging result for Hall. Forget the time/pace. Considering how badly he tends to perform in any race under the marathon distance, and his 2:17 at Boston, beating Bobby Curtis and Luke Puskedra over 10k isn't so bad. He's not his old self, and he probably never will be, but Puskedra is a 61:30-62:30 half guy, and it's been a LONG time since Hall's run anything close to that.

Believe he hit right where he aimed. Shows some progress, but affirms he still has a ways to go.

Does anyone have an estimate of what this is equal to at sea level:

-on a comparable course?

-on the track?

If the adjustment is substantial (I've always heard 1 minute for a 10k at one mile of altitude, but I have no idea what that's based on, and I've also heard this course is fairly challenging), then this actually might not be a bad result.

If he's starting from, say, 28:45ish fitness (sea level on the track and stays focused on speed while hitting 2-3 of Peach Tree, Bix, Wharf to Wharf, Utica, Falmouth, and Beach to Beacon this summer, along with 2-3 5,000m/10,000m races on the track, he might get back the speed necessary to compete for a podium/top-5 finish at a WMM in the fall.

I'm not a big Hall fan, but this race wasn't awful. It hasn't been long since Boston, and Quigley/Curtis are stiff competition. Curtis just ran 27:46 or whatever, and Hall's 10k PR is only ~28:10. It's going to take him a while to reach his potential over the shorter distances, if that's what he chooses to do. Not a fast time in general, but as a stepping stone, I don't think this is so terrible.

So did Hall hold back the rest of the field so Quingley could take 7th?

What kind of appearance fee does Hall earn for this type of race?

The same Mexican who trashed everybody at the Payton Jordan 10K this year.

This is Hall's best result in a while. He beat Curtis and Puskedra at their own distance. Ignore the time, it's a difficult course at altitude.

28:45 is a decent sea level estimate for the altitude and course. Hall seems to be a 2:12 guy now. Not 2:04. But that's fine. Get healthy, race some and go from there.

This is a pretty good race for Hall...Barrios just ran 27:34 two weeks ago, and only 29:30 here...I am guessing Hall could go 28:20 at Sea Level

This is actually a pretty good result for him if you consider the competition and not the time, although he does have that altitude advantage on most of the Americans there.

Was there really a 2 1/2 minute gap between 26th and 27th?

Took the scalps of Puskesdra and Curtis and Fernando Cabada...solid. Did they really give him bib #1?

No - this was the results of the "elite field". There were citizens that would've fallen within that gap and other gaps starting around 31 minutes.

Hall has never been a 2:04 guy. What are you even talking about?
