Yesterday my top 3 girls ran 1-2-4 at CIF Finals for D1. Destiny Collins - 4:48.02, Haley Dorris - 4:48.88, and Ashley Helbig - 4:51.40 in the 1600. Has any other school in the US historically run faster in a single race of the 1600 with 3 girls from the same school? I believe this is the fastest from CA, but I'm curious to how it stacks up against the best all-time in the country.

Washington has had a couple teams that have had 2 that fast, but never three.
NY teams might be the best bet, but those are 1500's.
Grosse Pointe South (MI) went 4:39, 4:42 and 4:51 last year. Much faster average. I think schools have been slightly better (3rd time) if you go back a ways. Not sure

I don't think any California teams have ever had three that fast. Impressive, although I still think Saugus' league finals in 2008 was more impressive. They had five run 5:03 or faster in the same race.
Would be a shame not to attend NBNO.....GO could put the Nat'l Record out of sight...who is coaching those kids.....can't be Doug Soles.
Great to see that sophomore Destiny Collins is in top form. I did not hear much about her this season until Arcadia Invitational.
The State CIF Girls 1600 will certainly be the premiere event. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole field went under 4:50.
Coach, you are doing an amazing job there with the two mile crew. Milers too. But I am curious why the over events are not up to that level. The focus of your team is clearly distance over all other events. Do you try to get every kid in distance for xc?
I mean good for you, it's usually the sprint coaches telling kids to not do distance because it kills their speed. But while you are awesome at the distances my only criticism is you are distance heavy and don't have a well rounded track team.

Impressme - Saugus is amazing and Coach Paragas has set the standard yearly for success in girls running. 5 girls under 5:03 is amazing!
Kiprop - We will not be attending NBON. We would like to go but it costs a little too much for us to attend and Haley Dorris will be in NY for the Dream Mile anyway. Do you know of any postseason meets in CA hosting a 4x1600? Yes I coach all the distance/XC kids at Great Oak, along with Coach Daniel Noble.
DedicatedRunner - Destiny was out for a month with a strained groin suffered in a speed drill in the winter. Assuming she would go far in the post season, we waited until it was 100% before resuming any training. Unfortunately she was not able to cross train on it without pain so we just waited for her to get healthy and built back up. She is probably 95%+ at this point and running well.
The Donger - Thanks, our 1600-3200 kids are running well. I'm not sure what you mean by not having a well rounded team? Our boys just won the Division 1 SS Title, using scores from many different events. Our girls finished 3rd. We have about 300 kids on our team each season and we do our best to build each group. We only have what we have elite athlete wise, we do not get transfers at Great Oak like many other top programs do. We have to take kids and develop them, which takes time. Since most of our distance kids start with me in XC, that is the group I pretty much have in track. I do not get a lot of the new athletes to the distance group in track, they usually go to the other event areas.
Have their been any other trio's out there besides the GPS girls that have run faster? I appreciate everyone's insights. :)

Boo! for self promotion. Obviously you have a special group and do a great job. But seriously, how many school get 300 girls out and live in a climate with optimal training year around. Transfers? I'd hope not, who needs transfers when you get 300 kids out.

That's between both teams, I'd assume. Optimal training year round, sure, if 100 degrees is optimal.

The best in New York I could find quickly are three Fayetteville-Manlius girls at a full Mile in 2011:
One Mile - Chittenango Invite (April 30, 2011)
1 Katie Sischo - 11 - FM - 4:55.97
2 Jillian Fanning - 10 - FM - 4:56.79
3 Courtney Chapman - 12 - FM - 4:58.06
The 2004 Saratoga girls had the potential with Nicole Blood, Caitlin Lane, Hannah Davidson and Lindsey Ferguson, but I don't believe all four ever ran in the same Mile race or 1500 meter race .... In a three-team dual meet, I believe Blood, Lane and Ferguson ran 4:37, 4:38 and 4:39 for 1500 meters ... That year Blood's Mile PR was 4:42.40 (she won Outdoor Nationals, 10th-grade), Lane ran 4:33.07 for 1500m (she was an 8th-grader in 2004), and Ferguson ran a 4:56 mile (but she normal ran Steeple, 3000m or 400 hurdles).
Not sure about that. The Boys 1600 is even more stacked. The entire field could be under 4:10. All running for second place. Ever here of BLAKE HANEY.

3 girls from Lawton Chiles High School in Tallahassee, FL went under 11:00 in the 3200 twice in the same race in the same season (in 2012 at FSU Relays and then at the state high school meet about a month later). Lily Williams (now at Vanderbilt), Rachel Givens (now at Auburn), and Carly Thomas (now at FSU). Perhaps just as impressive as the 3 1600m runners mentioned.

Hi everyone, thanks for the posts. Here are some thoughts to the replies.
Jack Frost - Boo to self promotion. I hate those people! Oh, wait? On a serious note though, yes we do have a lot of advantages, including numbers and weather year round. You have to remember that the teams we compete with have many of the advantages we have + transfers. That can make a big difference. Comparing our HS to a school in say Kansas probably won't make a whole lot of sense due to school size and weather as noted. Numbers matter, but what you do with those numbers is more important. 47 of our 50 girls ran sub 6:00 for the 1600 this season. That isn't getting lucky, that is development.
Bmeylan - Thanks Bill, that is what I was hoping for. The state's that run the 1500 are hard to compare because they don't run the 1600 as much as we do. Anytime we are running near what FM has done, I'll take that as being on the right track though. That 2004 Saratoga team was unbelievable without a doubt, but as stated they had 8th graders running. I will say that everyone is lucky I won't have access to my 8th grade class next year, as that group is loaded and 2-3 of them would have a great shot at my top 5 next season as 8th graders (little sisters)...2015 will be a fun year, sucks to have to wait.
HA - I'm not sure what HS kids would do for doping. Do Ensures or chocolate milk count? I had an athlete call me "dope" once. I'm not sure what it meant, but he smiled and walked away so I think it means I looked cool. Probably wasn't during my donuts, pizza, coke, rest and repeat phase...On a serious note though, we work hard. All of us.
T'Wolves - Without their 3200 times I'm not sure how we stack up with them. At CIF Prelims we had 3 girls in 1 race and ran 10:36, 10:42, 10:53 just running to qualify. We had hoped Ashley Helbig would run it too, but she opted to focus on the 1600 only. Our top 4 girls this season have run 10:18, 10:27, 10:30, & 10:53. I believe we are at a 10:38 average for the top 5 girls on our team, with #5 being 11:00.
Thanks again to everyone for the info. Was curious if anyone had seen a team run stronger through 3 girls in a single race and this helps. Looks like GSP is the best shot at that if they all did it in one race. Would love a link to that race to compare.

That is impressive, but I don't think it gets close to having 3 girls at 4:51 or better (3200m equiv. would be about 10:20-10:25).
Eastlake had 3 girls under 11:00 for two races in a row this year (going 10:49.41-10:56.13-10:56.32 @ KingCo and then 10:46.46-10:56.92-10:59.98 at the NW Regional -- and only one of those moved on to state). I have a feeling Great Oak (and others) have done this before as well.
Three girls under 11:00 perhaps not quite as impressive as having four girls from a single school run under 10:50 in the CA State Meet (plus Amber Murakami ran 10:47 during the season but was injured prior to state):
