the guys obviously not 17, but that race was pretty impressive.

Splits so 48 and 1:00? Is he being coached by Alysia Montano?

Age cheating is rampant but you can't say based on this photo that he's not 17. He looks young.
http://www.letsrun.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/alred-kipketer-296x300.gif?6560a2Should be an amazing race on both the women's and men's side. I think the US women will win gold. US men - nope.
The U.S. has a shot in the 4x8, assuming they can get low 1:45s from two of their legs, which should be possible. The wild card for the U.S. is if the 1:44x Andrews shows up as opposed the 1:46x and if they can get Duane the stick only a few meters down. I don't expect this to be a tactical race, whoever wins will have to average better than 1:45 flat.
Kenya has (2) 17 or 18 (perhsps they are 25) on their relay, both of whom are capable of spliting 1:44. I am going to assume since these young guys have no relay experience, they will run hard the whole way. One of those athletes is also a low 46x 400m runner and might be doubling back from the 4x4. The problem with young Kenyans is you can never predict what they will do, it would not be impossible to see one or both of them drop a 1:42...believe it or not. The good news for us is that Kenya is missing two of their best 800m runners, but they are still loaded with talent.
Lol as they hand him the flag he looks like he's about to puke all over it
Nobody will win gold as it is not the World Relay Championships, it is just a meet called the World Relays.
The World Champions are the 4x100 and 4x400 teams that win at the World Championships, ie Moscow last year.
I wouldn't say "move over Penn Relays" - more like the events popularized at Penn (and later Drake) are so popular that the IAAF wants in. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right ?

He looks like he's 12 to me.
Btw, that is a 2013 pic from when he was listed as 16 or 17, he is supposed to be 18 now. I have pics from when Kenyan H.S. kids competed at NXN and they looked like kids. Those kids were very good as expected, but not off the charts.
We've spent a lot of time previewing the mid-d action this weekend for the inaugural IAAF World Relays Championships.
We're very excited about the competition because track events with a team aspect – Drake Relays, Penn Relays, Worlds, Olympics, etc – are the most popular events. Thus we hope the event is a big success and will be there live to cover it for you.
Our previews of the women's 800 -
and men's 800 -
are now up.
Please take the time to read them as the US could win gold in both.
Ok, we know some of you aren't going to follow our advice and read them. As a result, please watch the video below. It's one of the greatest 800 video's we've ever seen.
We won't spoil it for you. Just realize that the guy featured on the video is leading the Kenyan team. He's just 17 years old. What a talent.
