Isaac Wood hired by Weber State

daddy's boy who never even ran. Plus, three jobs in 9 months? Seems to me he's an ambitious load of hype... Weber will always be number three in terms of Utah programs.

Jesus. So when the BYU job opens up how long will he stay here? I say he makes it 8 months before getting itchy feet.

I don't get this. You do realize the man Isaac is replacing, Jim Blaisdell, was a BYU alumni, right? Coach Blaisdell was there for 33 years and bled purple more than anyone else. Just because Isaac's a BYU alum doesn't mean he'll jump ship the first chance he has.

lol, ok let's just get this right since we are only three posts in and it's already twisted.

Isaac did not replace the great Jim Blaisdell. Weber re-structured the coaching and hired Isaac on the staff to fill a significant role.

Next- Three jobs in a year, 100 jobs in a year....what does it matter? Guy is a straight shooter and is was obviously trying to get into the business. Which means in the meantime you provide for your family/self however you can until the next realistic opportunity presents itself.

BYU isn't going to have a position open up for a while and if it does, there are plenty of hungry and qualified candidates out there including him. Can't fault a guy for that.

I've personally met Isaac and I'd say congrats man and all the best.

Okay, so please explain this statement from the press release:

Wood replaces longtime WSU women’s track and field head coach Jim Blaisdell who is retiring on July 1, after 33 years as head coach of the Wildcats. Dan Walker will become head coach for the men’s and women’s programs.

The vacancy was filled by Isaac, but his role on the team will be different than Blaisdell's. Looks to be the press release worded that poorly.

Who cares? He won't be able to out-recruit BYU, SUU, UVU, Utah State... Weber's ceiling is 4th in their conference in men's, probably 3rd in women's considering EWU and NAU's powerful looking teams.

Everybody in Utah knows the situation, they hired this guy over the most accomplished HS coach in Utah. Nepotism at its finest, that's the Utah way!!

HS = High School. Corbin Talley is the most accomplished HS Coach in Utah. What's the matter? Can't Mormons read?

So if the most accomplished HS coach in Utah had gotten hired over Isaac, would that not have been nepotism, too? Here is the definition of nepotism: the practice among those with power or influence of favoring relatives or friends, especially by giving them jobs.

I'm pretty sure Corbin Talley is better friends to Weber State than Wood was to begin with.

Fine, let's pretend that Isaac being Bob Wood's boy didn't influence Weber at all. Can you at least admit that Isaac having a famous daddy got him the "Team Manager" gig at BYU? Which then got him the FSU job which he quit after 3 months.

If you can't admit that then go to your bishop because you are lying to yourself and to Elohim.

You have obviously never met him. I've met him one time and quickly realized the guy knows everyone. He also knows the name of their dog, their favorite ice cream, and their running history and pedigree -- want to know what a potential recruit ran in the 3rd grade? Ask him.

Not sure about coaching ability, but he will run circles around the other recruiters out there, watch.

BYU, Utah State and UVU recruit?? Maybe for basketball and football.

If Isaac had purely gotten the job at BYU because of his "daddy" (which is most likely true, I'll give you that), do you think they would have just let him stay working with the team for so long if he was purely riding the coattails of his father?

Talk to Coach Harvey or Braman at Florida State and ask if Isaac being there had anything to do with his dad, and they will tell you it did not.

Ed Eyestone is not an idiot and he wouldn't have kept Isaac around had he not been very good at what he does.

Sounds like a real bastion of loyalty.

I think you answered your own question in the press release bud: "Dan Walker will become head coach for the men's and women's programs...." But I understand that deductive logic may not be your strong suit.

Continuing the "untwist" flawed logic trend from earlier:

Corbin talley = best Utah HS coach at this moment, not all time (and it's not close)

Team Manager = not a job that pays (tuition help if your lucky at some schools) I think anyone with a pulse willing to work their ass off who walked into Eyestones office at the right time would get equipped with a clipboard and a stopwatch. Qualifications required- pulse, functioning vocal chords, at least one good finger and one good thumb, functioning ears encouraged but not required.

Let's not act like America is not the land of "who you know". That's just how it is. That being said, results will tell the story. I'm not sure the guy is gonna get it done, but am semi intrigued to see how it shakes out.

I cannot say anything about the hire, but Weber State/Ogden is a paradise for running. I was on campus this weekend for the Ogden Marathon--gorgeous. Trails begin on campus.

To you Davis people: it's over. Talley didn't get it. Grow up and stop complaining (especially you, Anderson). He didn't get it because isn't a coaching position! It's a recruiting job and he has no experience recruiting.
