I had a tight hamstring and had ART on it. It feels loose now but have bruising. I had no bruising before. Is the bruising a sign that the ART injuried it more or a sign of healing?

I'm having deep tissue massage done as well (not ART but similar) and bruising is part of the process. they claim it is part of the process of breaking up scar tissue and getting more blood to the area. Hurts like hell but I'm still running despite the bruises so it does not seem to really cause damage.
I've done ART but never had bruising. If you had a really bad hamstring injury (I never have) then you would have lots of scar tissue that has to break up. Sometimes (from teammates) it can feel like the hamstring is healed when there is still scar tissue left.
Extreme bruising and pain means you still have lingering issues or that your hamstring never healed.
I've also seen a case with a visually bruised hamstrings run perfectly fine and never complain about pain, so it can really vary from case to case.
I've also seen someone complain about awful hamstring pain, have no bruising and nothing in MRI's but they were never fast.
