My kid is running his 2nd season of Junior Olympic track meets this spring / summer. He runs the 1500 and 3000. The local running store told me they don't recommend spikes for kids (he is 11) who run track as there is a significant increase in injury risk. I had never heard this.
Is this true? How much can spikes help? If he runs cross country will the same spikes work for cross? He is decent and has a good shot at qualifying for nationals.
