Not really. For an 18 year old male who is running 80 miles per week should be eating around 4000 calories.
Nice dumb comeback. How about actually using some numbers and calculations instead of just saying "nuh uh".
I can't give advice on potential eating disorders, but it's a good thing that your parents are worried about you. Remember they won't understand what you're doing because most non runners can't comprehend someone actually enjoying going running. I can also see how your parents viewpoint is annoying you, but that's parents/siblings for you! It would be sad if they didn't care or didn't show any interest in the fact you have a dedication towards running. Try and be patient with them I guess, explain to them what running's about.
Whether your parents concerns for your health are correct or if you are totally fine regarding any type of eating disorder, I would advise you to always remember the word "patience". You are at a time in your life when plenty of talented runners will have already burned themselves out a bit or lost interest in the dedication required to keep running competitively (college, girls, beeeeeeeeeeeeeeer e.t.c.)Whether you're running competitively or not, you're young, you have tons of energy and your body can recover quickly, but it still takes time, consistency and patience to become a kickass runner. It takes weeks, months, years of consistent training to build up strength and depth of fitness. Make sure you don't go overboard in the short term, take your time to build time/miles up so you don't end up getting sick, injured, burnt out and losing consistency by having to take time out to recover.
Good luck, sorry if this is a bit long.
Didn't write in this before and this does not take into account differences in height and weight but according to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010 issued by the US Department of Agriculture, an active 18 year old who is 5'10" and 154 lbs should consume 3,200 calories.
Note that active means a lifestyle that includes physical activity equivalent to walking more than 3 miles per day at 3 to 4 miles per hour, in addition to the light physical activity associated with typical day-to-day life. Obviously, more is needed than that if you are putting in 80 miles per week.
