does anyone know the formulas used? I'm collecting conversion formulas, and I was wondering if there was a way I could input a VDOT calculator into an Excel worksheet.

jim fiore posts here quite often and has a freeware program at his website that calcs vdot.
if you get the formula let us know as i might want to try to incorp it into my run log which is an excel spreadsheet as well.
I found this formula on a website a few years ago. I can't find the site now.
For distance in meters and time in minutes let
v=distance./t;
percent_max=0.8+.1894393*exp(-0.012778*t)+.2989558*exp(-0.1932605*t)
vo2=-4.6+.182258*v+.000104*v.^2
vo2max=vo2./percent_max;
The VDOT calc isn't just a simple formula, it's an iterative numerical analysis. The details can be found in JTD's book "Oxygen Power". The book is basically a huge version of the tables found in Running Formula (more distances and given for every tenth of a point) plus an appendix that shows how the tables were created. I used a slightly different iterative process from what is in the book but the results are the same. You can find VDOTer at www.dissidents.com/runstuff.htm
I sent this thread to myself once long ago, and thought others might like it bumped.
I've got a copy of Oxygen Power sitting on my desk if you want to know your VDOT. Just e-mail me.
