Actually, the opposite. She tried to break everyone.

She ran a great race. Not clear if it was the 'optimal' strategy but:
1) There was no strategy that she could possibly have employed to get the win yesterday
2) She didn't entirely crash and burn. Her finishing time was outstanding.
3) Weird that folks are getting on her case for saying she was in great shape (she was), saying she was going for the win (oh, the horror!), pushing the pace from the start (see points 1) and 2) ).
Folks should just congratulate her on a great effort.
That is all.
She said her coach thought she could run 2:22 and that's what she did. What's the problem?

Congratulations!
That's being polite.
With a field like this, she had to push. In 2983, Benoit went out in 4:47 for the first mile. Her 10K split was 31:45 (2:13:00 pace) and her 10-mile split 51:38 (2:15:12 pace) She faded in the second half but still set a World Record.
Total props to Shalane. I was really hoping for her to win, and I'm glad she made a race of it.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
