In London Olympic marathon, Shalane and Kara did the same thing. Ran from the front. Where's the hardware???

1536 at 3 miles (515). 1610 at 5k. Deba took the lead for awhile.Shalane just got her water. Some girl nearly tripped her but she avoided it nicely. got it just fine. Deba
back to the lead.
The course flattens out at mile 4. Actually goes up hill on mile 5. It will be intersing to see what they start running at mile 5.

Is Desi just hoping everyone dies?
"Hoping"? They're on like 2:15 pace.
I don't think desi is doing anything wrong. We see people go out hard every year for those first miles. Desi probably knows the pace is too quick. Although there are a lot of people in front of her.
re; flanagan's pace - did you read the lrc interview with Schumacher?
he kept going on and on about matching Shalane's times with the greats - meaning benoit, kastor, etc.
Clearly both coach and athlete think she should be running 2:20 marathons.
So that's what she is doing. trying to run 2:20 like her historical peers.
Hall's already giving high fives. He is PUMPED.
Online athlete tracker has Desi almost 1:00 back of Shalane.
Anyone want to take bets on whether or not Ryan Hall will use the same "strategy".

Odd to see such different approaches by Shalane and Desi so earlry in the race.
Repeat of 2011 except Shalane instead of Kim.
Jason Hartman with the plain red T-shirt just like Manzano wore at USA indoors...

People can talk about downhill first 5k all they want but this is way, way faster than the women usually go out.
Thhey just showed a nice shot of Hall, Meb and Abdi posing for a photo shot and wishing each other good luck
Universal doesn't seem to be showing much of the actual race

If the tailwind holds up Shalane can run from the front with no real disadvantage. It's a gamble, but like Joanie in LA it could get her the win.
Joanie also ran 2:22 at Boston by doing the same thing Shalane is doing today. She was 51:xx at 10 miles.
But of course it's very risky.
What is she doing? This is suicidal.
"has a bit of Kobe Bryant thing going on. I mean facially"
wut
Shalane still leading. 5k 16:10?
Is that Michael Wardian with the long hair and beard?

"here are the 3 americans in this race taking a photo op..."
No love for Hartmann... I hope he photobombed in the background.
can't believe shalane is pushing the pace already.
like everyone else is saying, she's gonna crash hard.
desi will finish ahead of shalane.
also, the men's race hasn't even started, and the idiotic local announcers on cbs boston have already called runners from africa "exotic". seriously?
What is the threshold that separates a "hobbyjogger" from a "sub-elite" runner?
Caitlin Clark thinks she can beat Eagles draft pick Cooper Dejean in 1 on 1
Cade Flatt with yet another DNF, this time in the SEC Championships
Do "running influencers" harm the competitive nature of the sport?
