Interestingly, the guy he tied with, Kevin McDowell, is the cancer survivor who Verzbicas dedicated his World Junior Gold to before his accident. -
Kevin McDowell:
Swim 00:09:55
Transition 00:00:26
Finish 00:16:21
Alan Webb:
Swim 00:09:55
Transition 00:00:30
Finish 00:16:18
So Webb had a faster run by 3 seconds, but had a slower transition by 4 seconds which made the tie. -
Come on alan, put your shoes on faster!

Why doesn't he just swim with his running shoes on? His transition would be much speedier. -

Her swim time was about the same as Webb's so she is probably a swimmer (non-skinny) and her run time (17:42) seems quite fast for a swimmer. So Webb's already pedestrian 16:18 seems even more so. -
Doubt webb was goin all out. Doing a sprint tri on sunday

Chelsea Burns Summer Cook around Chad Hall.
-
Webb doing triathlons reminds me of Joaquin Phoenix giving up acting to become a rapper.

Thats because all the people that finished ahead of him were illegals.

Certainly hope that this was a training "run"...
No way that he's now a mid 16 minute jogger... -

I would hope it's just a training run but you'd think he'd at least summon a tiny kick to clearly establish first place...we'll see how thus weekend goes -

Seeing as he magically swam an indentical time, and ran beside him as well, what do you think. -
Actually 16:18 is not even very fast for a training run. I'm pretty sure that I've gone faster than that on training runs before. ...and I never was a 13 min 5000m runner...
Why enter a "race" to do such a light training session... -
It is all about gaining experience in an event that he has not done before.
A challenge for Letsrun.com'ers:
Go to the track, run a mile at your current 5k race pace. Jump on your bike, any bike, ride 10 - 15 miles, at a respectable pace, finishing at the track. Try running 3k - 5k at 15 - 20 seconds per mile slower than your current 5k race pace and tell us how it goes. -
Exactly. He can just do that in training. In addition, this was a splash and dash. Run after swim is completely different than run after bike. Not sure what he will get out of this.

They were both beaten out of the water by the woman who finished 5th (9:40 swim split).
