Dear runners,
I run 10x600 today and averaged 2:00. rest was 200m jog in 75. It was hard but I could've run a bit faster on average.
Averaged 45 miles last 10 weeks.
16:40 possible? Or is sub 17 a better goal?

Based on this workout I would say 16:40 is not very likely. Your 600's were in 16:40 pace, which I think is too slow to do the same thing in a race without any breaks. If I would do 10x600m with 200m jog rest at my 5K pace, it would be a relatively easy workout. I think you are more likely to run around 17:00-17:20min to be honest. But who knows, some people do a lot better in races than they do in workouts.
It was not in spikes. I think I could've run 1:57 on average. Or run 5 more at 2:00.
I do better in races than workouts, of course.
Btw, 1500m is my best distance.
OK that changes it a bit. Since you didn't run on spikes you will probably be around that sub17:00. 16:40 still seems like a tall order though.
I am not sure if the fact that you are a 1500m runner will make a sub16:40 more likely. I am also a 1500m runner and I always noticed that running workouts that are supposed to show my 5K potential, always hugely overestimated my 5K final time. It was so easy for me to run 5x1000m with 200m jog rest at 5K pace, but when I had to put it together in a race it was both mentally (mostly) and physically very challenging. This is just me though, so it might be different for you. I personally think that doing 1000's will tell you more about your 5K potential because 600's are too easy to run fast as a 1500m runner. You can run them on anaerobic strength instead of aerobic strength and this is not possible for a full 5K.
