They are just waiting for Ryan to do something worth filming.
They are just waiting for Ryan to do something worth filming.
Or it could be a movie about hype and getting paid.
If anyone involved in this project had any sense it would have just been about the buildup and result of the last Olympics.
Movies don't always have a happy ending and as a comment above said great stories/movies/whatever can be made about the process not the result.
But seriously, Hall is probably the worst person to make a documentary about.
Listen to his interviews, he's overly religious to the point where you question whether he has a mental illness.
Take Meb for example, you can tell he is a religious person, but not crazy.
You listen to Hall ramble and ramble and you think he's nuts.
Tim, admittedly himself, is a dreamer. He's the stereotypical millennial with ambitions and ideas bigger than himself, but like all dreamers, planning comes second. Any forward progress is good progress for his career track, and if nothing else, he'll be able to argue the experiential lessons he's gained, even if the documentary turns out to be a catastrophic failure.
This isn't the first time others have invested in him before his moving on to greener pastures. I don't think he does it with ill intent, but is simply more afraid of not taking chances than making mistakes. He knows he can get away with it in his 20's when the mistakes have less an impact on his long term career, ESPECIALLY when being funded by others.
Bottom line, hate the game, not the player. He came up with an idea/concept that enough people thought deserved funding. Had the the campaign fallen short, we'd all have our money back and Tim would be working to find another way to change the world on someone else's dime.
I don't understand this at all? You say he has done this before. You say "Any forward progress is good progress for his career track, and if nothing else, he'll be able to argue the experiential lessons he's gained, even if the documentary turns out to be a catastrophic failure." This sentance makes no sense? You have left out a few words maybe?
But how can you think this? Nobody who gave money is concerned with his career track and the movie promised is way overdue? Why would you think that is OK?
And "hate the game"? What does film making have to do with this? I say "hate the player", he took that money and produced nothing. You must be 24 years old too, the way you think.
With a complete disregard for his backers and a "screw you" attitude towards providing any kind of updates on the project goals and time lines, it's looking more and more like Tim is a fraud.
Tim would love to put this out, Ryan has final say, and will not let this be some sad doc. I feel bad for tim.

How does Ryan have final say? Did Ryan put up any $$$ for this?
Shouldn't the investors in the film have more say?
"Kickstarter does not guarantee projects or investigate a creator's ability to complete their project. On Kickstarter, backers (you!) ultimately decide the validity and worthiness of a project by whether they decide to fund it."
So.........quit whining about what you were promised. Kickstarter isnt a platform to buy and sell products, but rather to buy and sell ideas. It's service enables you to fund other people's endeavours, but unlike the stock market, Kickstarter rewards investors with potential products or services rather than equity. You bought in and have received no ROI to date. You weren't conned and nobody stole anything from you. It was simply a bad investment on your part. Hate the game, not the player.
Furthermore, it's not as if he took the money and ran to Vegas. Tim failed miserably at his first crack at professional filmmaking, but I can't find any ill intent. It looks like the kid got in over his head and didn't know how to pull himself out. Regardless, people know Tim's name today. People don't know your name, or mine for that matter. He took some chances, advanced his career, might have lost some cash, but learned life lessons along the way. He traveled around the world making friends with countless accomplished runners, coaches, and race organizers while pursuing his dream. Morally, ethically, sure, he could have provided updates and stayed conscious of those who supported him. But to my original statement, Tim is a dreamer. It's not an excuse, but a chatacteristic that has evidently proven to benefit and hinder the creation process. Hate the game, not the player.
Another DNF for Hall. This time instead of a race it is a mythical, unicorn like film project.
think wolf of wallstreet - less blow more legs
hmm, sounds like the bio on the kickstarter page.
Is "dreamer" code for don't expect anything out of this except a lighter wallet?
Surely, there has to be some accountability.
You are right though. Based on that bio, no credentials, "dreamer", the people that gave money are the fools.
looks like Tim did post some updates going into LA. I'll continue to think the best for now...

What a bunch of crap.
The running profession is full of disappointment. That's reality. This documentary could have and should been finished years ago, and reflected reality.
Nothing about prolonging the project makes this bum a "dreamer".
Hope springs eternal.
Agreed. In his comments he talks about needing lots of money to buy the rights. Has he done that?
When am I getting my god damn copy of this movie?
Around half past never.
I want the documentary. Somebody needs to find that piece of shltTim and make his a$$ finish it.
All I need to know is
Is it sustainable?
Is it Green?
Is it Smart?
Is it Democrat?
Then in for $10 because we know that all Dems are cheap. (/End humor)
Sad news, sorry to those that lost money, seriously
The producer should find another story, another runner, unless all the money is gone.
I didnt contribute. The world is changing and im not going along.
