Brea Classic 8k today, Raymon Ornelas of Corona runs 27:04 8k. The kid is about 4'9" and 85lbs. It's got to rank him pretty high on the US single age list.

He's probably closer to 14. There is no single age list.
~5:26 pace for just over 5 miles.
at even pace, that's 16:55 thru 5k with 2 miles to go.
very fast for that age.
That's so fast I don't know if I believe it. If it's true we'll be seeing him destroy the high school level in just a couple years.
Also... another prodigy-child rolls along to crush my dreams... what else is new?
for what it's worth, i was there, and it did happen. i've also rabbited this kid in x-c meets, and he is legitimately talented.
that said, running can be like the stock market, and past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results...
Nice run yesterday cush.
The kid's stride looks like Bekele.
That's crazy small for a 13 year old but a great time. My son's best for a 5k at that age was high 17s (never ran an 8k). It will be interesting to see if puberty helps or hurts him.

As a 13 year old Hudson ran a 50:51 15k at the Boilermaker
and 13 year old Jamie Welborn ran 26:15 for 5 miles and 1:14:27 half marathon according to a Running Times from October 1980.
In the early 80s Running Times had a Highlights section for 18 and under, over 40 and woman. My goal was to run fast enough to get mentioned but I was alway a year too old or a minute too slow.
Another issue showed Tracy Garritson ran 34:18 and 34:15 when he was 13.
Brad Hudson ran a 32:57 10K at age 14 in Central Park. At age 15 he ran a 25:20 5 miler.
Raymon Ornelas will be 14 in Sept and he followed up the 8k the following week running a 10K in Riverside with a time of 32.09 at a 5:11 pace.
Ever heard of Jordan Hasay?
What the heck does this mean?!

Kids races often use a HS kid or adult as a rabbit so the kids stay on course.
You've never heard of this?
I'm assuming the poster means races that occurred in recent years not necessarily this year. Obviously a 13yo does not really need a rabbit.
feet
Sokal cush is male in his 40s. It is telling you he is faster than a 13 year.

That would be a huge improvement again. The fastest results for him I found on the net were 17:29 5k in January and 9:40 3k last year (2:16 800m this year).
Yeah,I thought the same thing. The 8k definitely happened and was on a certified course.jjjjjjjjj wrote:
