I'm fifty-five years old. I've been running since I was fifteen. I've had triple bypass coronary surgery (when I was forty-three) and a mild heart attack (which came three days after a wonderful eight mile run at 8,000 feet). My angina--it varies from person to person--who tightness in my forearms and a burning in my throat. Please believe me when I say continued tightness, especially more at the beginning of exercise and less at the end, is nothing to be taken lightly. Go see a cardiologist who works at a level three hospital (a reseach hospital) and insist on a stress test. Since we run a great deal, we just assume it can't be anything serious--but my own experience is that it can be.

I've been experiencing tightness in my chest and arms lately when running hard intervals, or racing. I was wondering if anyone else has suffered from this, and what could be done to help me get loose. I stretch my arms and do push ups before i race, in an attmept to loosen up, but this doesn't seem to help much. Any help would be appreciated
