My dad has the trophy from the 24 hour relay from 1980 when our coach, Thaine Jones, ran a ten-athlete team that included Epi Dimas, Jaime Dimas, Tony Melchor, Curt Christiansen, and myself. The Oshkosh Northwestern

had written a big article about the race, but I haven't found the article on-line. The Berlin Journal (Berlin, Wisconsin) also did an article. We ran in the summer of 1980, at the Berlin (Wisconsin) High School 440 yard asphalt track. After ten or 15 miles we lost one runner, and a few hours later we lost another. I seem to remember that each surviving runner went between 25 and 30 miles. The trophy has the total distance on it, and as soon as I see it, I'll let you know. I'll probably stop by my parents' house later today.
The year before- 1979- we went to Indiana for a really big 24 hour relay event, which we won, but I don't know the town or the distance. I think all 10 runners finished, and we might have gone 300 miles- but I was only 14 then, and I didn't used to pay a whole lot of attention. They told me to run, I ran, they said we won, and I was too tired to care much.
I wonder how many other 14 year olds have run 25-30 miles in a 24 hour relay?
