Yes I did. I told them I was tired, sleepy even when I got enough sleep, occasionally short of breath (all true but I knew those were symptoms of low iron). They took my ferretin and like 7 other things. Sure enough it was 11 and low vitamin D, everything else fine. What was your hemoglobin exactly? Mine was 14.5 which is on the low end of normal.
Hemoglobin was 14.7 and hemocrit around 43. They don't flag hemoglobin low unless it is under 13.0.
I wonder if I could get it tested at a non-HMO out of pocket.
If you consume too much iron, does it show up as high hemoglobin?
I'm just confused how iron doesn't build up in the average male who doesn't run. Everything is iron fortified these days. So shouldn't ferritin testing be done routinely or is the CBC really good enough? Because too much iron is very bad.
