Pro scene for Farrell? Could we see something around 13 flat?

Will he still be with Dave Smith? Any word on a shoe contract? He has run 13:15. With Mo nearing retirement, Farrell has to be the next big British distance runner.
Hopefully he takes a couple online classes and finishes up his degree. I'd be surprised if he sticks in Stillwater, especially if he signed a shoe contract already.

Yes, either his comment is misleading and he just means this last semester "of track"....or there is a different reason and he's just not wanting to share that and misdirecting.
There's no rational reason for someone to forego their final semester to try and run faster later in a non world/olympic year....and not much in $$ coming his way. That would not really make sense from a running point of view, or from a common sense point of view.
Farrell is a one hit wonder.

Beast, yes, fastest clean white runner in the 5k, no.
Judd.
ForFarrell it is a Commonwealth year. For england runners that us 2nd behind the olympic games. Im assuming hes targeting that.
What an ignorant statement! , The Commonwealth Games are rated inferior to both the European and World Championships in the UK and this has always been the case.
He is looking at either Schu or Salazar in terms of future coaches. Schu and Smith are close buds, expect him to sign with Nike and join the Schu Crew soon!
You heard it here first!
just spent 10 confused minutes thinking you ment henry rono

The Commonwealth Games might not be quite on the level of world's or euro's, but they are being held relatively close to the streets Farrell grew up on. I would imagine him and O'Hare view these games as a huge opportunity to establish themselves on the professional level in front of a home crowd of forty to fifty thousand of their closest friends. I hope they time things right and show up big.

Wow. You must not be a TRUE BRIT.
I am a British citizen and will tell you the Commonwealth Games are #2 to the Olympic games for athletics in England. Mainly because of the exposure and potential financial backing they will receive. The games receive more viewers than the European championships and World championships combined.
I would believe that this is going to be his target for the season this summer.

Both wrong, he'll go back to Europe and join a team there.

How is Mo near retirement? His 1500 and double gold performance shows no sign of slowing down. Give Farrell a couple years to become the British star.

Haha. No chance. Commonwealths might have more exposure due to be multi-sport, but no British athlete would swap a world medal for a commonwealth medal. I would say the same regarding European until 2 years ago. Now Euros is every 2 years it's been devalued (mainly due to being in the same year as Olympics) but I'd still say most athletes would take a Euro medal over Commonwealth.
I'm also British and would say Commonwealths falls inbetween the worlds and the euros in terms of importance.
Re. Commonwealth versus European Championships.
It all depends on the event.
Middle/Long distance ;e If the Africans , Anzacs etc. show up in strength a Commonwealth medal is far harder to win than a European. Likewise the sprints if the Caribbean athletes turn up in force (maybe not true for the women??)
In the jumps/throws/technical events the standard at the Europeans is far higher.
But the stuff about exposure is correct. The BBC will provide wall to wall coverage of the Commonwealths - almost Olympic like in its duration and intensity. Any up and coming Brit looking for a boosted profile and lucrative sponsorship deals will target the Commonwealth - especially if you are British but not English!

As depressing as this may sound, 100 miles is a long, long way by British standards.
