Just looked over the results and noticed that he got third in the Master's race, then ran the open...only 20 seconds slower!
All after winning the Seattle Marathon for the umpteenth time two weeks ago. Classic Uli.

Oh and for the scoffers, he was 10 seconds behind German in the Open race.
Hold your horses. Strongly doubt he is clean. Another Eddy H.

I would put down $500 easily on Uli being clean. Though I guess being called a doper on LetsRun must mean you're pretty legit.
I remember racing against Uli back in the day.
Uli isn't particularly a friend, but he is THE most likely semi-elite runner to be drug-free of any I have met. Druggies don't waste precious energy on races that have zero paycheck (Seattle Marathon, umpteen times), and he is the most consistent trainer/racer I have ever seen. Even his decline in performance into his master's career has been Űber-consistent.
Ten years ago, he ran about 10 miles to Lincoln Park for the regional meet, won it handily, then ran home. Machine.
Does anyone remember the article on him in RT some years back? It did not seem possible that someone would go through the training he did. Really outside the box thinking and increadibly tough. It changed my whole approach to the sport and what I thought was possible for myself
Already started a thread on this topic:
Uli is the man. I once was running the ten mile loop in Point Defiance and twisted my ankle on a root about as far away from my car as you can get in the park. Luckily Uli came through about 5 minutes later and after learning the situation he unhesitatingly threw me over his shoulder and ran me the 4+ miles back to my car. I should mention I weigh probably about 30 pounds more than I imagine him weighing.
Thank you Uli!

I twisted my ankle on a root and broke a few bones in the process 4 miles from my car. I ran/limped/hobbled back. Didn't walk though. I wish Uli was with me to push me to run back even faster!
Awesome stories about this guy, I had no idea. Had a long talk with him and then with his wife Trisha back in November 2007 when I went to visit Seattle University. He seemed like a nice guy, good assistant coach, but I had no clue he was such a monster.
Uli is definitly clean. He is a very kind, friendly and honest person.
I sometimes run into him running in random places, St Eds, Burke Gillman, PCT, and he always pauses or slows his run to say at least say hello.
Once I was running on the Burke ahead of a race I forgot was happening that morning. Uli was the first runner, and when he past me he recognized me, slowed to say hello and ask why I wasn't doing the race, then continued on.
He works hard and has trained conistantly for a very long time. I wish him continued success in running.
About 10 years ago I would see him at the CNW summer meets and remember something about him riding his bike from Tukwila/Southcenter area to Edmonds to work at Edmonds-Woodway. A solid 2hr ride, each way.
Always admired the guy for his work ethic, racing consistency, and true range (5k-Ultras). A great NW running icon!
Uli was my assistant coach in college. The dude grinds miles all day long, is an absolute machine and is 105% clean.
This is why LetsRun sucks. Every thread has to degrade into a "there's no way he/she is clean..."
Knowing Uli, I'm fairly confident that Uli is the OP.
Only half kidding...
That said, anybody even entertaining the idea that he is on drugs is both being ridiculous and clearly does not know him. He's just a guy, along with his wife, who is dedicated to and enjoys running, and does it A LOT.
First, I did not start this thread.
Second, the Defiance Park story is made up. I ran there only once, during the Sound to Narrows 12k.
Third, I did ride my bike to the CNW allcomer meets, but from Seattle,(10 miles, not Renton (20 miles).
Fourth, I did not run TO a race at Lincoln Park, but I did run home (10 or so miles) after the race.
Fifth, I have always supported lifetime bans for those who intentionally used PEDs. EPO, steroids, HGH, blood doping.... Those are not taken accidentally. There is a good chance I lost out on being on the German Olympic team in 2000 because others were on drugs, which let the German federation to raise the standard to 2:12:00, when the A standard was 2:14:00, and I ran 2:13:56. But I rather be a clean non-Olympian than an Olympian on drugs.

Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
