Or nah?
Or nah?
In the marathon, probably.
In the mile/1600, not a chance in hell. Find a new sport if you can't run faster than 4:50 within six months of today.
wow don't listen to that dude
why do you need to run sub 4:30 next year? give it time
are you new at running? how many years/months ahve you been running?
In general, it depends on how much effort in training you put in to get to 4:59, how prone you are to injury, how smart and hard you will train in that year, and whether you are male.
I'd say it's very possible. From sophomore year to junior year I went from 4:54 to 4:31. Granted I was injured all of my sophomore year leading up to track and was seriously undertrained. My potential was probably 4:28 if I ever got into a fast enough race. You can do it!!
I guess it depends on how long you have been running. My second year in track I ran 5:06 and that dropped to 4:35 by my junior year.
I went from 4:54 to 4:29 from sophomore to junior year on 30-35 mpw. Of course I only improved by 1 second my senior year, but I would say it's definitely possible.
go for it!!
I had a friend go from 5:09 junior year to 4:21 senior year in the 1600, increased 5-10 miles a week.
I'd say its possible but you'll have to step up your training. I went from a 4:55 1600 in high school to 4:08 1500 freshman year of college.

Me too (for the 1500m). And that was in my first year of running.
I was doing about 45-55 miles/week and two fast (track/fartlek/hills) sessions a week.
Down to 4:24 the following year and 4:17 the next.
absolutely in the mile.
I didn't break 5 until freshman year in college and got all the way down to 4:27 (1500 equiv) by outdoors. I've since run 4:23 and 3:59 1500 and am currently a junior. Its possible.
