American Football is shit.
American Football is shit.
Any sport in which the Olympics are not the premier event of that sport should not be in the Olympics. Olympic football will never be bigger than the Super Bowl
Football is in the Olympics:

You mean like the NBA Championships is bigger than the Olympic Gold? Folks in China, Argentina, Brazil, France, Spain and such might disagree with that.
First down and 9 meters to go on a field that's 91 meters long?
What are they gonna do? Play two games? It doesn't even make sense not to mention most of the world doesn't care for the American version.
they should get their shit together and add Cross-country. Maybe in the winter Olympics.

Basketball should not be in the Olympics
The IOC officially recognized the governing body of international american football (ifaf). There is a 0% chance that football will be in the Olympics any time in the near future.
Baseball and softball were recently dropped for being dominated by the US and not having global popularity. I don't think anyone will try to argue that football is globally popular, and the game is comically dominated by the US. The last world championship (yes it exists), the US national team featured a balance of DI, DII, and DIII collegiate players who had graduated in the class of 2011. The full roster here:

.
This team of superstars played three scintillating group stage games where they defeated Germany, Mexico, and Australia by the combined score of 126-14.
They then edged Canada in the final by the razor-thin margin of 50-7.
Until one or two contries can challenge the United States' 124th string team, football will not be an Olympic sport.
Wow, that's almost like Kenyan distance running.
Interest outside North America in American Football is growing rapidly. There will be an NFL team in London soon. And the IOC knows that there will be very big money in this for the IOC in TV rights.
The growth of football is by no means a good thing for the world. If the world needs less of one thing, it's American football.

Olympic basketball pre-dates the NBA. Also, World Cup is bigger in soccer. In fact, FIFA makes rules to keep it from being as big as World Cup.
I doubt it will happen in my lifetime. Maybe one day 7 on 7. Cannot play a tackle football tournament over 17 days.
Too bad the US and Ethiopia beat Kenya in World XC this year

See the schedules for hockey and, I believe, soccer with preliminary round games which can begin before the Olympics actually open. And there will likely be a dozen or less teams as in hockey and that makes setting up a medal tournament easier.
If there's enough money in it, and I think there is, they will find a way. But I can foresee a "family feud" between USA and Canada over the size of the field.

Really? If you had to pick one thing the world had less of it would be American football?
American football is pretty brutal at times, but it's not bad.

Almost means "not exactly the same."
And to the guy who said the world needs less American football, I'll second that.

This pretty well sums up my opinion.
in 30 years the nfl won't exist due to schools cutting programs and lawsuits from injuries.
maybe some version of football will survive but with prisoners and more violence.
how about adding football to the Olympic Games, but making it like boxing?
nobody who has ever competed professionally could play for the USA team, be it NFL CFL AFL UFL etc.
even, then other countries would still be at a huge disadvantage...but the playing field would be leveled by a drastic amount.
