I intend to start Pfitz's 18-week/85-MPW max plan in mid-January, but I don't know how best to spend the six weeks leading up to the start of the plan.
Base-building seems like one option, but I'm worried a month and a half of just pounding out miles would get dull. Alternatively, I could do some specific training for a 10k or half-marathon that runs around the same time as the start of the plan. That way I would have an intermediate goal to focus on before the marathon training starts in earnest.
The ultimate goal is the spring marathon, so I'm open to whatever will be most beneficial toward that end.
