Who's career is most similar to Rocky Balboa's?
I think Yuki Kawauchi fits the bill - doing it the hard way, pushes himself to the limit, and he's a big fan favorite

In order to be the rocky of running, don't you have to at least win?
Bill Rodgers was the Rocky Balboa to Frank Shorter's Apollo Creed. He just didn't get to take on Drago in Moscow.
danny devito
Beardsley, Dick. Up through his loss to Al Sal (Rocky and Creed in the first Rocky), his story has similarities.

Neither had the opportunity to duke it out with 'Drago' in Oly. 1980. though 'Apollo Creed' went toe to toe with 'Drago' four yr. previous. The thriller in Canada.
And what a duel THAT was considering, 'Creed' had a busted hand (foot stress fracture) & 'Drago' it's been widely rumoured had something in his glove (PED's).
Yup, them two road pounders really made running into what it largely still is now.

Now that scenario really parallels Balboa & Creed considering the two of them ended up in hosp. Or the winner, 'Creed' wound up on IV's and 'Balboa' unlike in the Rocky movie unfortunately never was the same.
What a day then - always have to interject the fact I was like 3/4 hr. behind those two gentlemen.

Not this Yuki Kawauchi moron again. I don't know why Letsrun masturbates over this guy ever other week. He races stupidly and produces mediocre times at best. The only credentials he has is that "he works a full time job". I mean, impressive, congrats to the dude for pulling that stuff off, but he's way over-hyped.

How'd NY go for him? I can't picture Rocky stepping out of ring of his own free will before the fight was over.
Come on guys. Billy Mills. No contest.
Somebody blue-collar, that's for sure.
Ron Daws.
How about the east Africans?

Except for Khannouchi, the only Americans who have ever run faster than YK's two fastest times, 2:08:14 and 2:08:15, are Hall, once for real and once at Boston '11, and Ritz, once. Take it out to his third-fastest time, 2:08:37, and you still only get another one from Hall. The 2:08:14 and 2:08:15 were 6 weeks apart.
Glad I could help.

Kawauchi has the most marathon victories of anyone in the last 2 years.

Dick Beardsley is a very good choice.
Dave Whottle. Or Heather Dorniden.
