I hardly recognize them with clothes on.
Okay, Meseret Defar is HOT.

I agree, is she single?
Too many missing. Shalane is prettier than most, and so are many others like Allison Felix, etc.
Looks like a Kmart family photo.

Marita Koch and the other East German women should never be given any lifetime awards given what we know now.
They (investigators)also unearthed a letter from Koch to Jenapharm complaining that Barbel Wockel, who won the European 200m title ahead of her in Athens in 1982, was being given stronger doses of the steroids because her uncle was president of the pharmaceutical company that fed the East German athletics regime.
Defar can get it. Cain is slowly getting better looking as she gets older. She's still pretty goofy looking but I expect her to be pretty cute in a few years.
Marita Koch never tested positive. Love her or hate her, the fact is that she is the WR holder. Her WR may be dirty but so is any other FEMALE WR.

the point is questioning the judgment of inviting her to a IAAF event. No one is suggesting we go protest in front of her home.
She was a pawn not a villain, but why hold her up for admiration? Frankly she represents many of the worst aspects of our sport. Terrible for the sport and personally nauseating, frankly.
Hey Alberto - I think by now we all know you're sponsored by Nike. Just because they don't make tuxedos with the Nike logo, is it really necessary to pull up the sleeve so you can flash the Nike watch? Can you just go out and have a good time somewhere without first checking with all the marketing advisors?

The point that I was trying to make is that due to how PEDs work with the female body, the gain is so much greater in women compared to men, that it is safe to assume that no one who performed at the highest level is clean. No Flojo, no Koch, no Wang and no Radcliffe.
So whom are you going to invite? Some 14:50 chick?

it's a gradient obviously.
When you have an actual document from an athlete arguing that she is entitled to an even greater dose of steroids, and she was a key element of a criminal drug pushing enterprise... that puts her into a different class of problem athlete than Radcliffe, who ran in an era of actual useful testing and no document or witness ties her to doping.
again, the point is not to try to wreck koch's life - the point is why invite her to a gala event meant to celebrate the best of the sport? Why? it was stupid decision.
it's like inviting Bernard Madoff to an investing conference. yes, he had one of the greatest records in all of investing, but...

Very well said. My sentiments exactly. Whether she tested positive is besides the point. We know she cheated.
If IAAF is giving lifetime awards, at least give it to someone who might be clean e.g. Paula Radcliff or Maria Mutola or even Zola Budd. It need not be someone who broke a record.
Huge thighs for a mile WR?
Marita Koch was not a "pawn." She was a willing and knowing participant in a system that unfairly earned her "world records" and golds. The proof of her cheating is in writing, in official East German documents. She doesn't deserve to be celebrated.
While I would agree that many T&F stars are beautiful people (inside and/or out), the photo gallery presented here does not even remotely display the most physically attractive of the athletes.
Yelena Isinbayeva looked good, although more attention is drawn to her average face when she's not wearing a pair of bun-huggers.
Defar cleaned up well, but I'd hardly describe her as physically beautiful.
Ashton Eaton and Seb Coe are both handsome men.
That's it. The rest of the bunch might be fine people with wonderful personalities, but they are dogs in terms of physical beauty. (And I can say that objectively because I am not a particularly attractive person...Average on a good day.)

when you live in an orwellian totalitarian state, have one way to support yourself, and you and your family could face prison for not being a team player, let me know how you do. I think you are being naive.
(but as I have said, I don't think she should be celebrated)
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
