OSU's. 2nd Kenyan, Kirubu lied about his age and is 27, is that fair!
Or their other old as balls Kenyans.
I'm find with Ward not running, but everyone saying he has two years advantage and failed to look at OSU, CRAZY.
Also, their whole top 5 is foreign, and even their youvest foreigner of the bunch, took A WHOLE year after college to train with his club, then went to OSU.
Guys, the NCAA rule is that you get one year after graduating HS and then your clock starts if you compete. This is where I believe the main issue is. Has nothing to do with the type of race, the eligibility clock started Fall 2009. The rule was put in place in attempt to control age a bit in the NCAA, mostly Kenyans and all the other foreigners everyone hates. If they let Ward compete, it will set a precedent that would likely allow Kenyans, who many don't take SATs until after HS, some don't start running until then, to then come to the NCAA as older freshmen, even if they've been competing in time trials or local races. I can't imagine the vitriol after this happens.
You could also then have a situation where coaches can tell recruits to sit a year and train and save a scholarship, and then have a scholarship the next year.
The new rule is normally supposed to sit you your first year, but since Ward was already competing, it comes in the final year apparently.
Unfortunately, the fact that the race was low key does not matter, and sure, it seems unfair to this guy, but there are dozens of Kenyan guys getting denied for running in a time trial. Since the rule is supposed to be that you sit your first year, those kids lose their scholarship opportunity, because no one is going to waste a scholarship on a kid that needs to sit a year.
