Goals - train consistently through the winter and pr in the 5k
M - 11.5 7:03 average starting 7:20 down to 6:36
T - 6 easy
W - 7 miles, 8X400 in 77-83, cut the workout short, really bad day
Th - 8 miles 7:30 average, felt really good but had to hold back for Saturday's race
F - 3 really easy, 8:30 - 9:00 pace would be my guess
S - 1 mile, started to warm up for the race on campus and noticed no one else was around. Kept running and noticed there was still no one around 30 mins until the start time. I figured the race was cancelled because of the wind/rain so just went home
S - 10 miles 7:45ish
Total - 46.5 miles, not a good week
Well first I'd like to say thanks for the welcome in last week's thread. I didn't give very many details so here's a short bio. I graduated high school in 2010 and was more of a track guy than a cross guy. ITBS took my junior and senior track seasons away from me so a lot of my track PRs are from practice during cross when I wasn't injured. I'd like to PR in everything from the 800-5k within the next 2 years. Currently I'm focusing on the 5k because I feel that I've lost a lot of my raw speed over the last few years when I would just do on and off mileage without any real workouts. Started taking running seriously again back in August and as of last week I'm 40 seconds off of my 5k PR. To show how much speed I've lost, the first 2 miles of my race last week were faster than the fastest 2 mile repeats I've run in workouts this whole year. Maybe I just have a hard time hitting fast reps when I'm training by myself but still making some progress at least.
As far as this week goes, I only had 1 workout because the race was cancelled but I still had to cut that workout short. Not sure if it was because I did the 400s on the indoor track or because I used flats instead of trainers or if it was the fact that I changed a standing 1 minute rest to a 200m jog but those 400s were extremely slow compared to the last time I did them. The long run on Monday was the 1 good thing about the week, ran a hilly route on a very windy day. If it wasn't for the wind, I think I could have easily average 6:55. On that note, I should probably stop killing it on the long runs, that could be another reason for the 400s being so slow. In a bit of a mental slump right now and just hoping it's because this week was windy and rainy all week long. Think I might get back to lifting/cross training a few times a week just to mix things up a bit. It seems like I'm able to get myself into relatively good shape within 3 months and then I lose all focus and stop running. If anyone has any tips I'm all ears.
Overall a bad week but not everything goes as planned, just need to keep my head in the right place and prepare for the next race
