So obviously I know my own training and such but I thought I would share my workout today. So we have a good meet this weekend where I am hoping to run sub 16:27 which is the "school record". We did 6x1k with 2 min rest on grass and last year when we did 1k repeats I did 5 of them and definitely not less than 3 minute rest and I averaged right at 5k pace maybe a little faster later in the season but it was really hard workout but I run them by myself since my teammates are way behind. So today after I figured out I averaged about 3:20 or 3:21 and it felt pretty easy like I could have done 2 more or so. I was confused because that adds up to like 16:40 but I was hoping for like 16:20. I realized my 4th was the fastest by like 4 seconds because the girls started just before us so I had people to catch. So I guess what I want to ask is would this workout be similar to like a solo race where I know I can run faster than I averaged? Because I really believe I should be able to run 16:20 to 16:30. Other details are that I am a senior in hs and my mileage is about 60 a week with 80 mile weeks in the summer. Definitely a more distance guy. I love the half marathon. So I guess its almost like I'm asking should I be able to run 16:20ish? Ps yesterday I actually had a teammate to a 10 minute tempo with me(short but felt good) and it was like 5:40 ish pace..
