One time my friend said he was going to sprint as far as he could, then the next day he'd be able to sprint a little longer and just keep doing that until he can sprint for the whole race.
Another time, he didn't run during the offseason and a month before track started he said "I should just go run for like 2 days straight to get in all the mileage I missed all at once and combine it with tons of sprints and hills and stuff to make up for that too."
