My wife and I are looking at houses and today we saw a 6 bed 6 bath built in the 1800's but the previous owner took very good care of it. It is priced for 200k, and we live in the deep south. Its suppose to be an old plantation house that is supposedly haunted because a lady hung herself here after her sons and husband were killed in the civil war. Its gorgeous and cheap but my wife believes the haunted crap. I really don't believe in anything supernatural and this house is too good of a deal to pass on.

If she really believes, there is no way you are going to change your mind, in which case you should just start looking for another house. Even if you buy it, anything that goes wrong will be blamed on the ghost.

Maybe she's just freaked or grossed out by the death. If that's it, then you may be able to convince her that she's being unreasonable.

In a way though I'd want to live in a haunted house, if it exists. Sounds exciting. But maybe I'm too bored to think clearly.

FYI - Most "haunted houses" are those that creek and groan at random times, which probably means there's structural issues to deal with. The reason to NOT BUY a haunted house is simply the fact that you might have expensive repairs to make later on.

Old houses have old windows that let air in. Doors slamming? All the time if you have other windows and doors open in the right locations.

Of course the most scary thing about that article is how many times the author used the word "actually".

As far as hangings, I had a rental that a guy hung his self in last year. They found him about a half hour later. I didn't even think about it and rented it out. The lady lived there a few months and then somebody told her grandkids about the guy hanging his self. All the sudden the house is now "haunted".
