Chelanga seemed like a world-beater when running such fanstatic times in college. What has happened? He never took the next step it seems.

I believe there were rumors/twitters that he'd be joining True in the Northeast somewhere.

I don't think Lagat gets pinged for competing against a high schooler like Cheserek at Milrose....why should Chelanga be for comfortably winning in a very early meet against reasonable competition?

^Ummmm... like in Hanover, NH where Dartmouth College is located and the Dartmouth Invitation was held? No way!

He was training under the OTC elite, not under Jerry Schumacher.

A cross country race that's open to open and unattached athletes. What other options does he have if he wants to run cross? Why is there no pro cross circuit?

If Chelanga is training with ben true now, this is a cool move by Coach Coogan. The Dartmouth team gets acquainted with sam , Chelanga gets his first victory in a while and he runs a cross country race that professionals don't have many opportunities for. Sure its a bit weird that he is a pretty high profile guy running in basically a dual meet, but I mean who loses? College guys get to race an ncaa champ and Sam gets to start his new career off on a solid note.

It is true, I live in hanover and got passed by a kenyan the other day when I was running. I was like wtf, there are no black people in hanover...

Chelenga used it as a tempo. Relax, hes been injured but he'll be fast soon.

I think more post-collegiates should run college cross country races, provided they're not head and shoulders above the field.

Man that was a hard interview to watch.

College xc meets should be for collegians and younger. This guy is head and shoulder above the rest. He denied another guy, many many years his junior, a win. He looks like the old guy at the bar when everyone else has moved on from the single bar scene.

I understand the race is open but the Race is subsidized by university funding. Race fees. Coaching salaries. Uniforms. Shoes. Travel. Food during travel. Hotels. Stuff paid for by colleges. A 30 year old pro runner should do tempos with his training partner instead of a collegiate race.

Its like saying a highschool senior is sitting in on a 7th grade class to brush up on his simple math.

No, it's not like that at all. The race director knows his name and could have denied his entry if he thought it was inappropriate. And he's paying more to get in than a college runner would most likely. Some of those guys have probably been running longer than he has. I see no problem with it.

It's not about the money or giving Chelanga the chance to run a tempo while being chased by some solid, ranked NCAA teams. Senior (Pre-channeling)Will Geoghegan was running in his last race on the Dartmouth course. It is likely that his coach enlisted Chelanga to pace Will to a PR, maybe even a record book performance. His winning time was almost a minute faster than he ran last year in the same event. And by the way, none of the press mentions anyone other that Geoghagen winning the race. Does anyone know where his time on Saturday stands against best Green performances? Best performances all time? I can't find it.

Did they change the Dartmouth course in the last few years? Those times would be unreal on the course that I ran on in the '00s.

Looks like Abbey has been dong some weight training?
